i'd go to sounds of the universe or sister ray personally. bm soho is much more expensive than pretty much everywhere so would personally avoid that.
also audio & video exchange (or something like that) near notting hill gate is good for second hand stuff

The entrance looks like one of the guards stations and you have to greet the "beefeater" gaurding it with
"Cor blimey guvnor, which way to the ole dentist chap, my teeth are urting somthin rotten!"
He steps out of the way and in you go.
