this is sad

Post by Pork E Pig » Fri Dec 14, 2012 11:50 pm

there are so many great artists on this website and i think they should stick with it.
and then there is everyone else...
i feel like i should tell a lot of the people here to just give up.
i don't want to be mean though.
i think it's ok if you make a little music once in a while even if it's total garbage. who cares? you know?
but then i hear people saying they're working 20 hours a week...
and the product is so worthless so hopeless.
it bothers me.

i don't want to discourage anybody. i feel like i should discourage some people though, like they need to be discouraged. i'm really torn about it.
if anyone else has any thoughts post them. don't link to anyone's work as examples though or talk about anyone in specific because i don't want to be responsible for crushing anyone's dreams.

1. How long have you been producing?
2. Could you post some of you're first ever productions?

The tune in your sig is pretty nice, I'm just wondering has your stuff always been decent or were you shit at one point too? How would you feel if someone told you to pack it in when you had just started learning?

I agree with giving people criticism (which can be harsh sometimes) with the aim of helping them improve but telling someone to give up is bullshit

Some people just don't have creative talent. It's a biological thing, like spatial vision et al. You can even be perfectly good at doing technical stuff, but that is never enough when it comes to art. I would never encourage anybody to stop creating music (or any other kind of art for that matter), though. Surely you can fail, but not trying is always much worse.

Why are you so worried about other artists?

I agree with the post above that telling someone to give up is a bit much.
There is no definition of art be it good or bad. It's a freedom of expression.
I do understand where the op is coming from. Today, anyone can be a musician with cracked software and that there should be a filter for music that was made with zero effort.

The OP only has 6 posts on here and he's already indirectly bashing on artists. That isn't very professional. How can you expect to grow as not just an artist, but as a human being if that's how you are going to be introducing yourself. It's no wonder that no one that has been on here for the long haul has chimed in yet. Our music may be shit, but no one's on here trying to brag. It's a place to come to when you want to learn or improve yourself as a musician. Why would you taint the environment in which is used as an outlet to better yourself?

Sorry for the rant, but common sense is common sense. Have some decency.

i wasn't bashing. not even close. come on I even told you guys not to name anyone in particular. I do think some people should give up. My first song was mixed extremely bad. The song i have on soundcloud is mixed really bad too. I'm still figuring things out. I guess I was out of line. I was trying to get a conversation about this without hurting anyones feelings or causing anyone to doubt themselves. I feel like I should delete my comment. I don't know how though I would appreciate it if someone told me how. I apologize if I hurt anyones feelings I really wasn't trying to that's why I said that no one should name names. Sorry guys I feel like an asshole.

I guess I shouldn't be worried about other artists. I just can't help it. I don't know. Sorry for caring.

what a pig! That's like telling someone who likes to go swimming to stop because they aren't great at swimming. Dumb. This is a hobby, if it becomes more than that for some people that's great, but for most of us it is good fun with maybe some hopes and dreams mixed in there. If it isn't for fun then what the fuck are people doing?
