I like the idea of the track. But, I don't think the bass growl fits. It sounds really badass, but I don't think it works well with how the track started off. Cool ideas in the track, though.

Been rearranging a lot of stuff in my house so I haven't gotten a chance to do much until recently. Worked on something a bit different. Ended up making a track with only samples which is a first for me. Had a lot of fun, though :D
I haven't really mixed it yet, just worked on the composition mostly. Threw some shit on the master bus to bring the levels up a bit.

Here's another one I did a while ago that I think I'm going to work on some more:

@axxessdenied: The first track is really good up until 1:22, it just doesn't seem to fit imo.. I love the piano on the second track, and the wobbles are tasty...

But to re-question my track, you meant he backing growl bass, not the high octave main right?, and thanks for the feedback..

Thanks :)
Maybe I'll split up the first track into two separate tunes.

As for the bass growl, yes the backing growl bass, not the high octave one. It kicks in for the first time around 56 seconds. It sounds pretty sick but not really fitting with the rest of the song I think.

Maybe if I cut some of the low end off the growls, and made them more high end, they would sound cleaner, cause I honestly don't think they sound that bad..

Oh, the bass growl sounds good, no doubt about that. It just doesn't fit the 'context'.

@smor3S:shit man!!sorry about that so much posts and threads my faded ass can't read all of em.
dude i like those little bells or plucks that you use in the intro.maybe a lil bit less of reverb on the snare would be nice.maybe bringing out the wobbles a bit more up front and the synths in the back ground.besides that i like the growls and wubbs man,very bassy dude nice work!!

@SMOR3S: Really nice atmosphere on this, but I think you're perhaps a touch too heavy on reverb in a few places (I'm talking like 3-5% too much so not major). The chords and melody are nicely laid out. The mini breakdown after the first set of drums is quite abrupt, maybe bring that lead in whilst the drums are playing so the fade is more seamless (or use reverse reverb to lead into it). Cant help but feel some hats and perc are missing to liven up the drums, the 4x4 gets a little tiresome. I really like the lead though, especially on top of those plunky chords underneath. Some female "oohs" and "aahs" would sound great layered in the chords too. Otherwise this sounds nice man, loving the vibe.

@Psychs420: Intro is quite cool, drums are nice and clean. I like the stuttered synth on the build. Drop is okay, but everything is quite mono - don't forget about spacing out synths/basses in stereo, especially the top end. Because of this the drums (mainly the kick) gets muffled by the bass/midrange. Not really sure what you could add on this tbh, some vocal sample at the end of each phrase of bass might be cool.

@axxessdenied: #1 Definitely a cool style, the drums are nice with all the little flourishes. I was expecting a drop after those risers... bit anticlimatic. Then the 2nd riser is a bit out of place and again doesn't really lead into the next bit of synth work. Definitely sounds like two tracks kind of jammed together at that point, the 2nd half remind me of like 90s rave/techno stuff. Quit cool in place especially the retro lead sounds. I'd think about your structure for sure, try and make it coherent.

#2 I like this intro, reminds me of Tron heh. Not really a fan when the piano kicks in or of the wobbly bass, sounds a little disjointed. I feel the intro would suit a house song rather than a dubstep style beat, just a suggestion. I think a sidechained/pulsing saw bass would sound nice especially against your chords, the wobble sounds a little weird and very basic.

------------------------------------------

Ok so more Knife Party inspired drumstep from me haha, this is unashamedly similar to "Bonfire" on the drop but idc :lol: . I wasn't going to upload the drop mainly because the mix is terrible on that part atm, you can even hear it clipping. But I've been playing with this for 5 hours straight and need a break... figured I'd get some views on the intro and overall feel.

Soundcloud

Just listened again, the mix sounds even worse on SC, anyways I'd love any feedback on the intro and build - I'm really pleased with the horns/guitar on the pre-drop (just ignoring the mixdown heh).

@Feedback:

@Psychs420: lol np... Love the intro, it has a really dark/chill gamey vibe, and the backing panned synth fills in the space nicely.. Does that one have reverb on it? @___@ the drop! You straight kill this... Fucking sounds like excision... wicked job bro. You have the timing perfectly, from bass, to synth, to break, back into the drop... Man I would so play this @ one of my sets lol... I want to mostly play house, but this would rip kicks lips off, if they heard this through da speakers..

Btw you gave feedback on the wrong track, my sig has 2 releases in it also :3

@mthrfnk: You gotta let me remix this :3 + WHY U SO GOOD @ MAKING MUZIK! lol.. <3 always love your shit bro..

Here is the track: (Did some updating, took you advice spectra <3)

Heh thanks man... just updated my track, few changes, mixed a little better and slapped a limiter on to help with the level.

As for your track, did you change the lead on the intro to like a trumpet? The "trumpet" sounds a little of place, I'd tone it down slightly, maybe cut the extreme highs. Liking the improved drums too :W:

Ya I added a sax at the intro, break, and lead.. It does sound a bit loud in the mix... Still trying to find a decent choir voice to pop in simpler, and then I'll make some choir "aaah" progressions..

Does this sound better?

Here is also an update for my "Dubstep with Derpy" Track (It's a master test.) Do you think the kicks punch through a bit to much?

mthrfnk- Sounds like some pretty traditional dubstep. I would change up the drumlines and basslines in some areas, other than that JAM OUT!

smor3s- Liking it, pretty neat.... I would shorten some of the notes when you drop into your house drumlines. Give it more of that emphasis on the beat. And throw in some more hats!

I have a couple of wips up on my soundcloud, and I would love for anyone and everyone to critique them in such a way I cry into my pillow at night because I just don't have the skills to do it. Hahah. Thanks for the listen, everyone--

@cabre - that intro synth is a bit "confusing" to say the least, I feel disoriented almost listening to it. Not sure about the sample selection of the drums, and your levels seem a bit off. Really like the drum arrangement though, very unique (to me).
@mthrfnk - sounding good man. Really like the sample selection for the vocal stabs.etc. Melodic progression in general is nice and the synths compliment themselves well. Something about the intro irks me, though. eq/levels, something is not quite right there.
@psychs420 - heavy datsik influence? Sounds like something he would have written in 2008/2009. I reckon you need to work on your eq for your bass/mids. They lack presence. Intro needs some variation to keep it interesting, was pretty dull by the end of it.
@boman - nice pulsing bass, though I'd take a dip around the 400-500hz range, sounds a 'tad' muddy/unclear. Be careful with your snare/kick combo hitting at the same time, I'd say you'd be battling levels when trying to get that mastered, usually a good idea to high-pass it quite high up (300hz+.etc.), and take a dip out of the kick. You can also try side-chain compressing the kick when the snare comes in, but not by much, just a few dbs, just to give the snare a bit more room.
@ljk32 - mixdowns is one of those things we CAN pull apart, because it's usually not part of the creative process. If we comment on other things, we're at danger of stepping on your toes as a result of some creative choice you've made ;) Progression/structure is fine. Tune -does- seem a bit flat, but again, could be a creative choice (aka, minimal.etc.)
@Eye-siC - nice sub man, and good note progression. Atmospherics hit nicely when necessary. My only real problem is that the sub seems a tad too loud and/or muddy, so try playing with the eq a bit there. Snare seems a bit lacklustre in respect to the rest of the tune as well. Doesn't need to hit harder, just the sample helps make the rest of the tune sound more muddy than it probably is. Overall, nice track.

Haven't been in the studio for a while - this one came out of experimenting with and sampling 808 kicks. Additionally, this tune uses ONLY Ableton stuff (native plugs and sounds only). The result - I was restricted a shitload, but was forced to learn and re-use some stuff that I hadn't touched or didn't understand well. The result... well, have a listen :)

@SMOR3S: beautiful. nice chillout track, great progressions. a little more variation would benefit the tune though.

@Psychs420: bass sounds are nice. but make your snare a bit punchier and clean up the mix a bit so it sits well. also you could add a little reverb to the hats and bass. The other track you posted, "Dubstep with Derpy" is too messy I think, I don't really like the bass sounds you chose, but the kick punches through nicely, so don't worry about that. ;)

@mthrfnk: really, really nice. i love the chopped up vocals and my god, your snare. bass sounds are great, but the high-pitched noise could be a little "snappier" or faster.

@subfect: great track, really dark and deep, i like it. but at the moment i'm really into that sort of stuff, my wip is somehow similar.

so here is mine, trying different things atm:

cheers bRRRz. Just updated mine with (I think) better drums and arrangement. Also worked on the EQ/mixdown a bit for the main mids as they were creating a lot of problems.

Soundcloud

bRRRz, on your tune. Liking it man. Just be careful with those mids. Sounding very much like Biome, and tbh - Biome is getting really old. He hasn't really changed much since he hit the scene hard just under 2 years ago. Nice production quality though, everything sounds like it has it's own place. Great work. Would love to do a collab at some time tbh :) Low whomp is really awesome.

subfect - dark vibe, solid tune. The soft choir-esque pad is a great touch. I think it needs something in a higher register to make it sound a bit larger. Your bass is really working it though. Great stuff. The one knock I have against it is that I usually don't like the minimal intros but this one is alright. (+ Big fan of ableton stock plugs)

bRRRz- That dungeon vibe is pretty sick. my only knock in these tunes (yours and subfect)is that there's not much highs. Atmosphere and bass are on point. A tad bit more variation would add to the progression of the song.

Cabre- arrangement is cool, and I kind of see what you were working towards, but I think you lost a bit of that in your mix. It seems like you laid some acid sounding loops over a really chilled out drum and bass song. I think you should go back and figure out what you want to be heard most and fix your levels accordingly and that will help you.

smor3s- the section at 1.35 is great. the section ending around 2.45ish felt like it was building to something massive but then you just drop back in with more house. Nothing wring with that but you might want to add some additional layers. for your choir thing, why not try layering some on top of each other in ableton? then take that to simpler.

WIP - Another one of those tunes that was designed to be one thing and became something totally different. Was originally going for a glitch dub feeling, and it sort of got away from me and became a tribal moombathon thing. Not sure where to go with this one.

@Houston Weather
Drums need more punch, snare is weak and too quiet atm. Try something a bit more standard but groovy. 0:36 is a nice development, but 1:02 leads to a loss of energy. Overall the tune is a bit repetitive, try to work on the structure of your tune, analyze work of your favorite producers and such.
@Subfect
You have solid dark atmosphere overall. Bass seems a bit muddy and the intro is too long in my opinion. A bit more variety would be nice, maybe something like strings with choir would add a bit more darkness to the atmosphere.
@Remorph
Nice, you nailed dungeon atmosphere. I think that voice samples about humanity declining or something like that would fit here perfect, not much to say otherwise.

Here is my EP. It's almost done, just wanted to hear a few more opinions.

@mthrfnk: "don't forget about spacing out synths/basses in stereo" thanks man but what do you mean?can you explain to me haha
yea i was kinda thinking about adding some sample like you said at the moment my mind is a lil blank but ill def keep that in mind
btw ur song "no more complications" nice man really digging the sample,like u said really does sound allt like bonfire but still pretty good,what did you use for horns:O?

@smores: thanks alot man.actually no that paaning synth is just some strings at a lower octave with soome filter,no reverb:-)haha excision?i fuckign wish haha thanks though
i did?which one is ur track then??haha my bad

@subfect: actually no datsik influence wasnt really thinking about datsik moment although i loved that 2008-09 sound,waaay more skill put into wobble and effect use.
yea i heard that after i uploaded it too,i had only made the intro to just i guess prepare for the drop ill work on that though thanks dude:-)
dude you gotta show me how you made that sub in your eros track,fucking subhugger my subs are loving it haha really chill mellow track definitely reminds me of 2008:-)

@bRRRz: thanks dude im already working on a bit more in the mix so it all sounds cleaner,adding more variaiton too so it stays interrestintg.never really though about putting reverb on the bass always thought that was a mono haha.

@subfect: very chill.. Good overall production.. The snare sounds really organic, I like it...

@Houston Weather: 1:35 Is probably my favorite part, has a deep vibe.. What samples are you using for your drums, they sound really organic.. :3

@Kongret:

Pitfall: The main bassline high synth is really good, and the growls fit nicely.. Good variation..

Darkness: Sounds really Jazzy, idk if the title fits the track it self, but overall was good..

Feather: Loved the drum and bass builds, into the lead... This was prob my fav track..

Firefight: Could of used more movement

Over all awesome EP!

Updated my "Vision" track more.. Mainly was just working on the mixdown... Haven't really added anymore elements...
