Compression Molding?

Post by FrostByte » Sun Dec 16, 2012 10:35 pm

Does anyone know if there is a way to "mold" a sine wave to a lead? Is there a way you can take a straight midi note of sub bass and literally mold it to follow a waveform's envelope, lfo and amp? Is there a technique this can be done with, perhaps a special variation of compression and limiting? For a very simple example, if I were to have an wobble with an LFO set to 1/12 and a sine wave without an lfo, is there a way that I can get this sub bass to follow the peaks and valleys of the wobble leads waveform? The reason why I ask is because I have been using envelopes in place of LFOs to modulate the decay of the wobble lead's master envelope, hence there is a lot of unsynced automation going on within the lead which is extremely difficult to try and make an accurate sub bass for. If anyone could help me out with this I would greatly appreciate it!

You could try sidechaining a gate/expander.

This is what envelope followers are for - try using one that has a side-chain otpion so that you're using it from another source, rather than the active channel.
160 bpm roller - for all the skankas.

sidechain gate or some sort of gater plug that mimic's the orig LFO. audiodamage has one that does a fantastic job, and the gator on predator can be used as a plug in-- really handy.
