Peace and love are part of the human condition, not religion IMO , we're talking about the bizarre stories like Noah's ark, there's no reason to be rude.Kochari wrote:Yeah, some people believe in peace and love and being nice to each other, IDIOTSLye Form wrote:If someone believes ANYTHING IN RELIGION, they will believe almost anything.

one could argue bizarre stories like noah's ark are part of the human condition as well
believing fairytales happened as they are told is dumb
discarding the importance of these fairytales and how they can inform us on the "human condition" is dumber imo

Please tell me how bizarre stories are part of the human condition.

Re: Post your unpopular opinions.. NSFW
people believe in urban legends and fall for pyramid schemes and tbh i dont see that being any different than a bible story. its all a sense of false hope or fear

Some people believe in peace and love because if they don't they think they are going to be punished by a magical super being. as for how bizarre stories are part of the human condition, to go back to the noah's ark example, you'll find that the myth of an ancient great flood is found in one form or another in pretty much every culture on this planet, in that sense it is as universal as peace or love. whether or not said flood actually happened the fact its been reported in so many different cultures has to be meaningful in some way...
wish my english was better so i could explain more clearly...

One could argue that it's actually the oppositeTerpit wrote:Peace and love are part of the human condition

Also, I wouldn't say there's a link between peace and religion. Sure, some religions may preach peace, love and all that, but there are plenty of examples of religious persecution throughout history.

Didn't mean to be shitty about your English, i just genuinely didn't understand what you were trying to say.dfaultuzr wrote:sorry for not being a native english speaker i guessTerpit wrote:Please tell me how bizarre stories are part of the human condition.

I thought it was just Islam and Christianity that had that story, wouldn't surprise me if it was more wide spread than that, but even if every culture ever had a story about a big flood, I dont think it can be considered part of a condition, its a story, IMO used to make people more god-fearing and a very effective one at that.

my point about "fairytales" being part of the human condition was that the flood story is just an example among many others of "fairytales" or myths that are common to many if not every cultures, genuinely wish i had the vocabulary to expand on that... i'll point at what jung wrote about archetypes and myths being part of a collective unconscious of sort...Terpit wrote:

and i see your point about making people more god-fearing but to be fair ultraspatial also has a point when he says peace and love is quite the opposite of the human nature, now i'm not denying religions largely drifted from their initial purposes or messages, but i suppose making people god fearing might also at first been a way to define a frame of rules for a society to function, which i reckon is part of the human condition if you consider humans are meant to be social animals, blahblahblah

Because they all do (to answer your first statement).
For instance the Chinese word of Boat is "Ship" + "8" + "Mouths" (as in People). China is not a Christian country, and was locked off from the rest of the world for many centuries.
That they have this same "story" written into their very ancient language along with everyone else's shows it's more than some writers invention. The thing happened.

Yeah I see what your'e saying, although I don't think peace and love are the opposite at all, we're social creatures and were pretty shit physically so stick together and have done for time. But yeah, religion chats are loongdfaultuzr wrote:my point about "fairytales" being part of the human condition was that the flood story is just an example among many others of "fairytales" or myths that are common to many if not every cultures, genuinely wish i had the vocabulary to expand on that... i'll point at what jung wrote about archetypes and myths being part of a collective unconscious of sort...Terpit wrote:
