dotcurrency wrote:Guys guys guys, how do you get a good sounding sidechaining piano? Like when I do it, it does not sound as smooth as I would like it.
PRIME example @3.31 (pretty much the end of the song, its NOT in the beginning):
How are you doing it?
In FL, with peak controller. I turn down the decay so its a little slower, and i turn down the tension, so it sounds more like a slow moving LFO kind of, but it sounds, abrupt and...nasty.
Two things to try, try using the FL Limiter to sidehain and play with the attack and release settings, I can get this sounding quite nice.
Alternatively, just draw in the volume automation manually for like 4 kicks, then just copy/paste it
Could also use GrossBeats sidechaining function but I have mixed opinions on that.

For a good feeling sidechain in FL limiter -36 Treshold and 4.1:1 ratio is usually the rule of thumb.

This one is ludicrously simple but I just can't get it right. Its the bass sound. Sounds like a pitched distorted 808 kick with the highs en some mids heavily scooped out...
You first hear it at 0:57 but get to hear it better at 2:03
It's really heavy, but I can't get it right at all o.O Mine just sounds rrrly silly
Distort an 808 until you get the base sound, load two copies of it into a sampler, add an envelope to the pitch of one of the samples and mess around so you get just a bit of phasing, bounce it, load it again and set a loop on the tail region or stretch. Hope it works.

Tbh sounds like a distorted 808, but layered with a reese to me, thats probably really low, with some "pluck like" properties, phased a lot, and gliding down.

@Hircine: AH!! Hhaha. I stretched one once and completely phased one once, but never thought of just subtly doing both.
>.> To the lab! Thanks.
@ dotcurrency I heard a reese in there too kind of, but I think it might be the phasing of a distorted 808. It does have that reese growl to it, but the attack just sounds too much like a distorted 808 to me. Especially at the 2:03 point. The attack sounds 808'y, the tail sounds reesy.
yeah liek they said try and like get phasing, like maybe have two instances of the sampler ( if its a sample) and like change a few cents on each pitch, and also maybe try some resonance on one of the, or both, or at different points, or maybe get an EQ with a big peak, so kinda simialr to resonance really.

It sounds really warm so I would say a straight out of the box 808 sampled into an emu or an analogue saw wave -> emu overdrived with a nice scoop in the 200~500hz range
Well, this has turned out to be a pretty interesting sound to people :p I've actually gotten sort of close to the vibe, but then I distorted and timestretched the whole thing and it sounded BRUTAL. Unlistenable noise to most prob's, but I think it could fit my tune haha.
The one at 1:21 and again at 1:38. The really crisp bass that sounds orgasmic and gorgeous and sexy and ahhhhhhh! I don't even know where to start with it...
I was wondering how to get this 'big room' brass sound. It seems to be some kind of soundfont or preset, given the fact that this sound is used by several producers and sounds so identical.
But if so, where the hell can I find it?

Seems like Eptic Bass is quit trendy right now, and I found them very interesting, so I was wondering how to *fully* create these things:
It's at 1:09, and I think it's LFO'd or something.
And throughout the whole this song after 0:20.
I made that bass with osc1 on -24 sine square and osc2 24 sine square
with scream filter and some envelopes
I mean to me it sounds like its just a pitched down sample from a stock brass sample bank, either logic esx24 or maybe kontakt, like if you open a brass horn preset and just play some lower notes, maybe even layer some higher and lower ones. Or it could be from a synth like the yamaha M1 maybe cos hudson does use some classic 80s synth sounds aswell like from that synth.
