Dubstep becoming too dark and masculine?
Like others are saying, there something for everyone in dubstep and thats great for me because I like a nice variety of vibes. Sometimes I'm in the mood for something hard and distorted and sometimes I want some deep stuff even sometimes I want some fun dancefloor stuff, whatever.
I just gotta say tho, L-Wiz - Girl From Codeine City - way to bring sexy back. More tunes like this please.

tbh there hasnt been many nice tunes people are following the dark trend... since october 2006... last tune u hear tha gave mme a warm fuzzy feeling was mahogony by conquest..
but the general trend has been darker vybes with 1 or 2 good nice tunes being distributed once every two months.. give more tunes like summer dreams...... sounded fucking beautiful when scream dropped it on stella this past wednesday and let it run from start to end.

It's all about the contrast.
I've gotta go and check out some of the tunes being mentioned in this thread...I just gotta say tho, L-Wiz - Girl From Codeine City - way to bring sexy back. More tunes like this please.
While i love most of the list you offer, you gotta admit that it is mostly a list of exceptions, not rules. The dominance of harder-than-hard rinse out wobble clones that you hear out in DJ sets is seriously bothering me right now, and has been for some time...ThinKing wrote:Alicia re-rub

just off the top of me swede, plus all the pop-reggae stuff from Rusko, Skreamz and all that....
plenty of non-blokestep out there, just stop & think for a sec.

same here. it's either a wobble off or biggest drop competition for most djs/producers. you can get dark but still have a lot of funk and swing in your tunes, but a lot of people seem to miss that part when making/playing tunes.Blackdown wrote:While i love most of the list you offer, you gotta admit that it is mostly a list of exceptions, not rules. I don't think its too dark, but maybe its becoming alittle "in your face". In my opinion the 2005 era was the darkest era, deep bass and dry atmosphere, i find that alot more "dark" than a spooky movie sample and a distorted wobble. Not that i'm complaining, i love fucked up basslines, i just think the DJ's should vary their selection if they are indeed comprimising for the crowd.

I like dark and I like happy. I like it when DJs mix all the different vibes together in a set. Real journey stuff.
However, I do think that the menacing sound of underground genres keeps them safer from mainstream acceptance.
Industrial is still happily underground after 30 years.
Trance turned cheery & melodic and got sucked up, dried up and shat out by pop culture in less than 10.
