"Hidden Fortress" another Kurosawa fave.

I saw the latest Miike Takashi movie a while back at the cinema, Ryuu ga Gotoku. It's based on the PS2 game of the same name (released as "Yakuza" outside Japan). Worst film I've ever seen. As opposed to most of his other movies which I really love. I know they don't fit into the title of the thread really but which are everyone's favourites? For me it has to be Fudoh the New Generations or Dead or Alive.

i love asian cinema special attention on japanese chambara/jidai-geki love kinji fukasaku, Masaki Kobayashi and big ups to sony chiba, the one an only Yagyu Jubei hehehe

miike's favs, Visitor Q stole my heart... liked Gozu and enjoyed a lot Dead or Alive and Ichi the killer. Waiting to watch Hapyness of the katakuris.

what about modern directors like Shinya Tsukamoto, Shogo Ishi (big one!), Koyoshi Kurosawa, etc.?

haven't seen a lot of the new 'uns ( not much cash for DVD's ) get what I can on VHS not everything available... a nice chap in hong kong sends me stuff once in a while.

Will try and check 'em still ( have noted your mentions )

mainly all about the oldies for me....

illsta check visitor Q, i think is his best movie... i didn't see all his movies, i think this is imposible to do that, the guy makes 4 - 6 movies in a year, but is the one i enjoyed a lot. hehehehehe

the yakuza stuff still on my 'things-to-watch' list i have watch hideo gosha's 'The Wolves it narrates the story of several people of the underground world in the meiji restoration. amazing work!

have you read some chambara manga??
i truly recomends, as must read, lone wolf and cub (kozure okami, babycart) is the original manga, then came the tv series, and the movies.

hondas and mitsubishis lol have you seen that one in wich jackie rides a fucking lamborgini under a hovercraft?

I just started buying the original Lone Wolf & Cub manga, rock ard Japanese! Need to get the dictionary out for some of that. Each book is also a lot longer than the rip-off English versions.

The spanish edition is like the original almost 400 pages per number. is a great great manga, one of my favorites alongside the material of Jiro Taniguchi.

and i think that visitor q is not just violence, has a nice hapy ending, and good message hehehe
