This is really well put and if there's anything I actually have reservations about in calling the session a "Dubstep History Lesson" it's the "Dubstep" part. The reason I say this is that most of the stuff I'm most excited to play on this night is stuff like Wookie, Zed Bias, early proto-grime like So Solid, Oris Jay... stuff that probably doesn't fit into the "dubstep" category but who cares, it's the music that made me love some 140 bpm dread bass!Jam-2 [Darqsyde] wrote:I've seen quite a few bits of discussion on What is and what is NOT dubstep,...
And as a New Yorker who came to love this music when it wasn't getting much love here, respect has to go out to those who were repping it then: Dinesh and the Drive By parties, Sean B and Freeskool, Reid Speed, and Wikkid crew. Those were some seriously fun parties, and I will never forget hearing 138 Trek drop for the first time in the Chapel at Limelight.
let them kiddies know! big up.dq wrote:This is really well put and if there's anything I actually have reservations about in calling the session a "Dubstep History Lesson" it's the "Dubstep" part. "Sometimes I do see people saggin, with dirty underwear, and it is indeed a sad thing."

mans got two spliffs ready for this!dq wrote:SOUTH3RN
The Texas dubsteppers have been at the forefront of the scene in the US, providing a steady supply of lush, emotive dubstep beats that will be pure meditation on the Love soundsystem.
DAVID LAST, whose broad range of styles have won him praise in the minimal techno, experimental, and reggae worlds, and have taken him around the world to perform. Expect a bass-heavy set of original dancefloor material exploring the boundaries of dancehall and dub.
I AM NOT OK.
joe, dave and i have been calling each other to make sure that we've got certain tunes ready, so that should tell you how serious this is going to be. between our three record collections, it's easily 95% of all the tunes released between 2001-2003. i mean these are tunes that maybe 2-3 other people on the planet have on plate. tunes that were/are way ahead of their time.
too much!
too much!
