Burning Man

Post by step correct » Thu Aug 16, 2007 10:12 pm

........Is it just me or do the people that go there act like they are in some kind of secret magical club and have special powers or some shit. All of my friends that go wont stfu and the lot of them get a lil big headed about it.. I'm sure it's great time and all but keep your feet on the ground people. I have a buddy who quit a good paying job to go (he's worked there 4 years) another friend pretty much now hates life all year and looks foward to nothing else (pretty much his exact words) It's rediculous! No knock on BM though, I'd love to go sometime. All the local promoters and DJs.. etc are going to be in for good surprise this year what with being overloaded with Dubstep....after hating on me for doing my thing and bringing it to town. I dunno...I had to rant about it. Is it really that fantastic and life changing? "Well it has this huge sense of unity and everyone looks out for each other and you can network and blah blah blah......" Isn't that pretty much what we all did at raves in the 90's?? LOL how long did that last

Whatevs....maybe I'll go someday. And from then on out look foward to walking around in a silly outfit for a week with a bunch of complete strangers.

I know, I know, don't knock it till you try it right? I'm not knocking it...just the additude of some of my mates that go.
cheers

it seemed like a good idea a few years ago, but crippling debt means leaving the uk isn't really an option

So I guess saying "If you haven't been you just don't understand" would just piss you off more, eh?

Burning Man is amazing. I've been four times now. I wish so badly that I could go again this year, but I can't afford to.

I don't have any digital pics from my first year (2001), but here are the others, if you care to look through them:

2003
2004
2005

Nice!! No, what I'm saying is that some people I know have gone a little overboard on it. I'm sure it's great and one of these years when I have enough dough to rent an RV and can swing getting a week off work I'll go.

"But you just don't understand, bro...." Hmmm I think I have a fairly good grasp on what goes on there. I just don't think I could get with the whole costume thing hence I would be rendered "uncool" :(

Not everyone goes costumed to the gills. I usually stay pretty low-key and stick to my usual all-black attire. There are some who hound the "spectators," but it's all in good fun.

Loads of great music of all varieties, loads of great art of all media and styles, and the most GORGEOUS desert landscape. Good people, good times. God, I wish I could go this year!

If you do go, I highly recommend hitting up the eplaya forums on the site and making friends with people on there. I've gotten several opportunities to play at different camps each time by planning ahead and seeing who all has a DJ rig and available slots. Also, if you're a vinyl lover like myself, plan on setting aside an afternoon to clean all your vinyl when you get back, because they will get filthy.

think he could've planned ahead and asked for a vacation. if he's worked there for 4 years, and its a half way decent place, that should've been fine
maybe he's too high to plan ahead, or maybe he's on a mission

I sacrificed a job for Burning Man the first time I went. It was BS though. I had told them I was going several months in advance and they didn't need me there anyways.

Yeah I've been offered to play at several places if I ever go. There is a crew here that set up a rig and a huge camp and all. I guess they are going to be right next to the Narco Hz camp out. Fuck I don't know if I could go a week without a decent shower and a good nights sleep. I'm old :)
