Sleeper : Sleeper’s rise to prominence in 2011 has been meteoric, establishing himself as one of the hardest hitting producers in dubstep with his dark and grim steppers heard assaulting sound systems worldwide. Alex, representing Coventry, works at a prolific rate.

Sleeper’s music encapsulates what many love about dubstep’s traditional sound, placing a key emphasis on sub frequencies, minimal track composition and intricately constructed soundscapes and textures. His efforts were quickly signed by Chestplate recordings head honcho Dj Distance, and along with sometimes collaborator District they have joined elite company in releasing on the highly regarded and seminal label. Sleeper’s inaugural plate has created fevered excitement in the community with the colossal Scanners, Zombies and Narrow soon to be an essential component in DJ’s record bags.

Alex’s selecting skills are in high demand, and with an increasingly busy schedule of bookings across the UK and Europe, expect to see him near you soon delivering his own unique style of bass education, packed with exclusive beats. There are countless other solo and collaborative riddims being assembled on the daily and 2012 is set to be a gargantuan year for Sleeper......

After getting international guests repping the 130 and the 140 bpm stuff it is time to check what's going on in the Footwork crossovers at around 160 bpm...
My man Coleco recorded a mix representing that sound with the very finest selection of deep, subby and melodic tunes !

Coleco : Bristol based Coleco has spent a while in the scene making tracks influenced by everything from world music, funk, rock, and varying types of electronica, to his memories of 8bit video game soundtracks.
Coleco’s music is a genre defying exploration of sounds.
All of his influences become clearly apparent in his music, as it takes you on a journey through deeply harmonic melodies, and heavy funk breakbeats, with deep, rippling bassline undertones.
His world music, dubstep, and breaks crossover "Hypnagogia" was recently released on a Soul Motive 12" and received support from Skream on his RinseFM show.
Now he moves forward into the realm of the footwork-hybrids, draws in Chicargo influenced rhythms, and blends with the usual breadth of his eclectic style......

LAS (Love and Sound) : is an electronic solo project of Lassi Vainionpää, producer/musician/DJ originally from Joensuu, Eastern Finland. Nowadays LAS lives and loves in Helsinki, the capital of Finland.

LAS has worked and experimented on his sounds since mid 2000s, beginning with hiphop, moving trough post-rock-ambient and dubtechno to dubstep, to whateveryyouwanttocallit. LAS is very much influenced by his own roots in music from the past and really likes to create all kinds of music with his own unique style and without any prejudice.

Versa : Michael Nickless aka Versa, started out in 2005 making bedroom beats from his hometown of Milton Keynes.
His childhood education an endless foray into the world of reggae, soul and motown, developed his ear for a variety of different genres and curated his ability to amalgamate various influences into one malleable vision of what he wanted to create, his own unique sound.
As the years passed and the his musical knowledge grew, he fell in love with jazz music, which, along with dub music, is an outstanding influence in his work today.
In early 2011 he moved to the ever growing music mecca that is Manchester.
After his initial 2step/hybrid releases on Smokin Sessions and Pushing Red his music has developed into a more dub & techno influenced sound.
Releases on Macabre Unit Digital and On The Edge, along with more EP's by himself and Rowl on Smokin Sessions, soon followed.
Since his musical inception in 2005, his path has taken a dramatic turn, now nurturing a dub-techno esq vibe, whilst solidly holding onto his hip hop and reggae foundations, he easily shifts his range from 90-170bmp and everything in between.
Versa's status as a technically precise and almost obsessive musician is yet to be raised to another level with a forthcoming Mindset release and many more to be announced in 2013.

Congi
Nottingham duo Congi have come to prominence over the last 12 months with a string of early digital releases through labels such as Deep Heads, Innamind, Tribe12 and Redshift-One. They have also contributed remix work for the likes of Gantz, NDread, Fable, Shreddex, FullCasual and Nanobyte and in June 2012 saw their debut vinyl via Deep Heads reach No.1 on the Chemical Charts.
With Dub, Jazz and Hip-Hop influences all present in their sound, the dynamic pair's musicality is ever-present in their maturing sound. As well as their forthcoming second vinyl on Deep Heads, featuring the well publicised 'Somnium', there are other Congi vinyl releases expected for 2013, alongside group work with as yet unnamed collaborators.
Definitely ones to watch over the next year.
