First Track

Post by Echo Gecko » Thu Dec 27, 2012 8:04 pm

Merry Xmas ;-), and this is where you can hear my first track. It has been described as sounding like a video game/dubstep, and was produced with Reason 5.

The bass is great. Video game sounds are pretty cool too. You keep the drums fresh, and when it starts to glitch, things get heavy. I work with the subs a little more, make them a little more dynamic. Also, try to make the snares/claps a little harder in the mix. Great first track, though!

Hey, I actually like this tune. Its fresh but yet filthy enough :D Maybe try messing around with frequecy filter on the beat, especially while its building up before drop. But still for very first song of yours.... you totally nailed it imo :D

Really big room sound on this, was thinking that maybe the synths would smother everything but all the elements seem to have their own space in the mixdown and the track evolves nicely to keep things interesting :Q:

Thanks for the feedback all! I have followed your soundclouds (Except Casper cause I couldn't see a link), but if you have any threads or tunes etc. you'd like me to look at, just post them here.

As a general reply to all posts to date: I should probably say that I've made other tunes, however this is the first dubstep one I've properly 'put out there'. I don't have anything else worth listening to though! I come from more of a technical metal guitarist/drummer background, so I'm still easing in to the arrangement styles of this genre, but mainly I'm just looking to work on my production skills at the moment, so any advice on that area is highly appreciated.

@Casper : Could you elaborate on what you mean about messing around with the filter freq before drops? And if you have a soundcloud, gives a link =]

Really good for a first track! Props.

He means messing around with filter frequency. Drop a filter on your bass/synth and there's something called frequency that, well, makes it sound distorted like, filtered.

anyway, good melodies, nice vibes. Nice borderline DnB drumwork. Keep at it!

Actually meant more specifically what to do with the filter. I wouldn't have got very far not knowing what a filter was! =p There's probably about eight different filters involved in the dirty patch alone. I quite like messing around with the amp envelope amount in Malstrom.
