@ OfficalDAPT :I respectfully disagree with that idea.
I was just about to say, after looking through the stickies and older posts, what happened to some older posters like futures untold and daft tnuc?
I'd help with the wiki. I guess I could also do videos if my computer can handle it. I tried to do a screen capture of myself playing a game before but it didn't turn out so well. I'll guess I'll check out some tutorials on how screen capture so I can make a tutorial. lol I've got (what I think is) an original idea already!

The post count requirement for opening new threads and/ or using certain links is working pretty well for IDMf, at the very least you keep out the spambots trying to sell you new prada shoes and shit.
Re: Changes to Production board you'd like to see in 2013
Maybe a pinned thread stricly for production videos could be nice. No discussion, just videos and pretty strict moderation.
Re: Changes to Production board you'd like to see in 2013
How about a thread where all the sounds that have been asked to be recreated with the actual answer from the person who managed to do so without any other discussion.
So when you click on the thread you'd see someone ask "how do I make this (bass, lead, etc. and directly underneath it is the appropriate answer. This could be a useful source of information, especially for people just starting because it would probably cover a lot of bases. Idk, just an idea

That would suggest that there is only one correct solution to every problem though?Kit Fysto wrote:How about a thread where all the sounds that have been asked to be recreated with the actual answer from the person who managed to do so without any other discussion.

Not necessarily, it just shows one of the possible ways of achieving a sound. I think most people know there's always multiple ways to get a sound but I could be wrong.wub wrote:That would suggest that there is only one correct solution to every problem though?Kit Fysto wrote:How about a thread where all the sounds that have been asked to be recreated with the actual answer from the person who managed to do so without any other discussion.

I think more or less the general technique used to acquire a sound. Like if someone asks how to make a laser stab, you could tell them detuned saw waves with pitch envelopes and reverb. That is how you do it and from there tweaking it is on your own hands. I think there are enough commonly asked for sounds that you could put people on the right path with a thread like that. Also seeing people using different techniques to re create sounds helps a person understand processes better. Even if the response achieves the sound in a different way than the original artist, it's more about seeing how they do it and understanding why each step was taken. That's why I thought it could be helpful.

haha i understand your idea. its i just think people could achive a sound, others might like in the time they spend to get to a sound they might not even like at they point they figured it outKit Fysto wrote:BudSpencertron wrote:the only way to know the exactwub wrote:That would suggest that there is only one correct solution to every problem though?Kit Fysto wrote:How about a thread where all the sounds that have been asked to be recreated with the actual answer from the person who managed to do so without any other discussion.

As much as I appreciate all he's done, the production board can't rely on wub for discussion starters and things of that nature

The DSF video bible.
Encourage members to contribute to this by giving them a special avatar or something (something cooler maybe).
Video tutorials on everything production related made exclusively by DSF members. This would basically have everything that the production bible has, but all in video.
Cos, like, reading is lame.
Set up a DSF youtube channel for it maybe (really sorry if there already is one
)
Other stuff:
Give people a naughty avatar if they make a thread without searching or reading (yuk) the bible, so everyone knows that they suck asses.
Free porn section
Sticky a software vs hardware argument thread, so it doesn't contaminate every single fucking thread that anyone ever makes.
Allow the poster of a question to up/down vote responses based on helpfulness.

I think it's a great idea. Sure, there's lots of ways to get some sounds, but other sounds have a set way of making them. Sometimes someone can show you a way of doing something that you wouldn't have thought of straight away, imo it's better to be shown something than spend hours twiddling knobs. I don't know why people think that teaching yourself is the best way to learn - i wouldn't want to jump in a helicopter and just start playing with buttons and levers hoping that i get it right first time.Kit Fysto wrote:BudSpencertron wrote:the only way to know the exactwub wrote:That would suggest that there is only one correct solution to every problem though?Kit Fysto wrote:How about a thread where all the sounds that have been asked to be recreated with the actual answer from the person who managed to do so without any other discussion.

I was watching some of Urs Heckmanns tutorials, and he does things that are second nature to him that i'd never have thought of. It definitely helps me to be shown something, i'll then put it into practice and remember it.
Learning production hasn't been easy for me - i have never played an instrument so have had to learn music theory, had to learn the software, arrangement, sound design etc, and i think a lot of newcomers will be in the same boat.

so you admire skrillex?
Re: Changes to Production board you'd like to see in 2013
I admire the fact that the first time I saw a Skrillex vid posted here, I was PMSL, and thought it was spoof...
But now he has won a fucking grammy, or 3
