DUBSTEP MEETS GRIME: MARGER - 'SPACE'

Post by ruckspin » Sat Dec 22, 2012 6:43 pm

forthcoming on PRESSED RECORDS.
receiving support from Skream & Benga, Nihal, and other big dogs on t' radio an that.

Also you can also download 3 free tunes from http://www.facebook.com/pressedrecords

So this post is kind of a dubstep/grime conversation starter, kicking things off with a blatant plug. Not sure if it's posted in the right section but mods can move it to an appropriate section if they feel like it.

Thoughts on the future of dubstep/grime crossover tracks?

Dubstep used to be called grime so it`s not like there`s a massive gap between them anyway

Has Wiley over quite a bit of dubstep.

ok so what's the difference? apart from all the strong instrumentals seem to end up in 'dubstep' and all the weak ones are just labelled 'grime'?

and as for posting up vids of mcs chatting over dubstep that wasn't really the point of this thread but nevermind. Hope you enjoyed the 'space' video anyway.

Don`t worry Ruckspin, I think they`re good ;-) Grime sounds more bouncy to me, at least. The bass seems to have more mid on it, as well. It`s also more vocal-orientated, there`s not exactly a lot of tracks called dubstep that you could call `songs`....

Dont really understand where you guys are coming from. To me, saying grime has 'more mid' is weird cos a lot of mainstream dubstep is totally mid-ranged out. Also why is this 'bubblegum grime'? What does that even mean? It's too soft? Not enough sample-pack claps? Not enough talk of shanks and straps?

What happened to dubstep forum? What happened to thoughtful discussion and posts that made sense?!

Dunnoooo then, grime b-lines are more easily hearable to me (in general). I`m used to dubstep being a vibration thing, or maybe because it`s more sparsely filled in it sounds less full of frequencies. The only way I could make a definite conclusion is through calculating the mean variance of a fourier analysis across the entire of the two genres... What do you think, then?

Anyway, if you`re wondering where the seriousness went, it`s in the SNH. There`s more posts there than here now

"Thoughts on the future of dubstep/grime crossover tracks?"
As long it ain't Foreign Beggars-ish.
Plus it ain't got the same energy as "POW! (Forward Riddim)", "Hype Hype" and "Murkle Man", the classics. Doubt anyone can top that, I'll need more examples of the crossover.
