Mix File Hosting

Post by ammo » Fri Dec 28, 2012 7:04 pm

Does anyone know of good sites to host my mixes in the long-term?

Soundcloud won't give me enough space for free as each mix is about an hour long. Mixcloud does not seem to have a download option.

Any advice would be great!

Thanks

oh shit, overlooked that.

but u can still host them on mixcloud and make it available for downloading on any filesharing website.

another option is to share them at themixingbowl.org, although one has to register there first to download.

^ Soundcloud premium is a fucking rip off. It's more expensive than actual webhosting!!

Fair enough, the price isn't as good as it could be. But if you've already got an active Soundcloud account it makes sense IMO to have everything tied together.

Thanks for your reponses.

I'm not looking to upgrade my Soundcloud as I probably have about 15 hour long mixes I would want to keep available for download.

I used to use mediafire but then my files got frozen because some company made a claim about my mixes. Bizarre.

I am using sendspace but the files expire with inactivity then I get requests to re upload and I assume some people can't be bothered to request a re upload anyway so less people hear stuff.

I used to use yousendit but that seems to have started charging.

Anyone know any other options?

Get yourself some cheap webspace and a domain and host them directly on there.

This is the host I use www.justhost.com
$45 for a year (cheaper if you sign for more than just 1 year) and a free domain tossed in, unlimited space and bandwidth as well.

Justhost is alright, they have fast servers but I had to leave them because I was using too much bandwidth and disk space. Never take "unlimited" at face value. I'm about to leave my current host because of the exact same issue.
I've heard Hostgator are more reasonable, probably gonna go with them next.

I just use mixcloud with a link in the description to a Mediafire download link. Kind of a pain to use 2 different services, but mixcloud gives the opportunity for easy listening and Mediafire is always fast and easy for downloads

I host all my websites through Hostgator and couldn't recommend them enough, cheap and absolute top notch customer service in their live chat, am there at least once a week to get things done quickly, honest answers & go out their way to help you. Unless your unlucky and got someone who really goes by the rules, just join again or ask for a different agent nicely :)

Thanks guys. I went for mixcrate in the end, just a shame you have to register to download.
