i think alot of people have read too far into this in this thread (including me

) but to me it looks like its not really about the fact that u cant bring a camera, but more about the fact that everyone thats deep into dubstep feels very much a part of it and a no camrea policy seems like it creates a lack of that community sort of vibe that u get at dubstep raves.
like a said i dont care for taking pictures myself, but bringing one to dubstep rave certainly doesnt mean that u should piss off to fabric with your glowstick between ur legs.
Surely no cameras would actually develop a more community based spirit?
I mean, it would give a reason for people to turn up, to find out what its really like, generating a "mystique", something that only can be felt in person and not re-created at home through the medium of DVD or photos?
Its a bit like the genre itself in a way, I didnt quite understand dubstep properly until I turned up to a proper rave.
I feel where ur coming from mate, and i'm now starting to understand the reason they have given.
I dont think people try to recreate the vibe at home with video clips and photos tho, it's just that if ur passionate about the scene then some snaps of urself at this rave would be valuable to u, y'kno like "i was there" sort of thing.

I think no photos is a pretty nice rule in itself - I've been to nuff events where people stand still in the middle of the floor with their camera phone at arms length trying to get the right angle to take shite pictures of bands and DJ's and it's pissing irritating.
And don't worry about what you'll have to look at tomorrow, focus on what you're doing tonight, live for the moment and all that. I kind of like the way that it adds to the mystique - it's like you're going to a place that noone can see unless they're one of however many it is actually goes out and goes there. Berghain do it for this reason, I think.
It's a bit waste of Ammo to announce it via a random last minute forum post with no explanation, though. They seem to be getting rather good at alienating people these days...

Where do you draw the line? Technology is getting so advanced some digital cameras are packing enough quality that can contest with some of the more "proffesional" cameras.
I mean HD camcorders etc, very small compared to video cameras that were made in the past year or two.
You can get some cameras packing upto 10mp stills now - i remember flickin through the argos book last year looking for a new camera and seeing 4-5mp or so was the average size. The only cameras that had 10mp were those huge Niko ones.
I spose its safer to ban all rather than some. It is just a whole lot easier that way.

They could allow pin-hole cameras but then everyone would have to stand still for a couple of hours.

Can I suggest than if promoters want to contact TV crews about filming at FWD in the future they do so by contacting the stations direct, rather than by getting Appleblim to post on the dubstep forum at 4pm on the day of the rave? It's a rather roundabout way to address TV stations, isn't it.
Posting here may give the completely innacurate impression that the message is intended for people actually reading this forum! Crazy!!! I would also suggest that telling professional TV crews "if you do come with a camera you will be able to put it in the cloak room" in not entirely appropriate.
