Promotion Agency for Dubstep?

Post by ThaiDust » Sat Jan 05, 2013 1:58 pm

Hi Guys,

After trying to check the net for an agency who is promoting Dubstep DJ's I found nothing, except hundrets of Promo Agencies which are promoting House/Techno Music.
I am looking for a really serious agency who has a lot of famous Dubstep DJ's, Mags, etc. in their promo-pool (for sure I will pay for the promotion).

I am not talking about youtube channel promotion like UKF etc. It must be something solid (I mean UKF is very solid, but it is not guaranteed that they will promote your music).

If somebody of you really knows a good company please let me know asap.

Thanks!

So you want to pay someone to promote your music regardless of how good it is.
Why can't you do it the honest way.
Speak to local promoters, hand out your mixes, make friends with local DJs, attend local nights etc.
Paying someone to do this for you is ridicuous

Obviously you understand me wrong. First I am not acting as musician, sooner as a label for Downtempo/Chill-Out with a new sublabel for Dubstep. Why? Cause I felt doing something "technical and electronic sounding" again. Btw, it is nearly common that each label is promoting their releases with a promo angency.
In the old days I was doing Vinyl with Intergroove GmbH. So what they have done?! They had a large DJ promo pool where I could decide which DJ should be promoted with a whitelabel. And this worked very well.
As I mentioned in my previous post, there are a lot of Agencies doing promo for Tech-House/Minimal/House Labels, if you dont believe me take a look and find out that even very famous labels are promoting their releases with them.
So where is the problem here?
If I do it the way you describe, I guess I have even more costs as doing the other way. Gasoline to clubs, entry for clubs, no sleep at night, etc. etc.
And the "promote yourself" via facebook or soundcloud is just a weird idea, cause Dubstep is a Genre with a lot of fellow-runners and tons of releases on Beatport each week (comparing to Chill-Out/Downtempo/Trip-Hop releases).
So this make absolutely no sense.
For sure I could take the time and write each DJ via Facebook, but I am not the only label who is doing this (and here I have to point out that it is even harder for a new label to get attention for, no matter how good the music is), so do you believe they will really take care of my messages, while receiving thousands each day?
Your idea is possible but there would occure more costs and take more time. Thanks anyway.

From your 1st post I assumed you were a DJ starting out. I understand labels need a promo agency. Regardless of this you still need to start interacting with your local dubstep scene. May I ask where you are based? You're going to have to start small so start approaching smaller DJs and producers. You can't just start up a label and release music from big names straight away if you're not known in the scene. DJs will generally play your music on how good it is not how well its promoted if they have any artistic integrity.

yeah, no worries, it was my fault. it looks like i am acting like a producer.
unfortunately i am based in frankfurt/main germany. a place where dubstep is not very common.
if there would be a big scene, i would try to get in contact with them for sure, but its a "nearly" dead genre in frankfurt. actually in whole germany people are more into this 4/4 straight productions comparing to UK etc.

Try and start your own scene then. Pinch did that in Bristol and look at Hotflush now.
Start a club night. DJ yourself if you have to. Get mates who are into dubstep to play aswell.
Just googled dubstep in frankfurt and there's a night called blow dubstep. Maybe go to the next one and talk to the DJs and promoters there?

ok, thanks for that link. To be honest I've never heard of them, so this seems to be pretty interesting.
Actually I think the same way like you, starting from the ground is always better as trying to reach a bigger audience in a short time. Cause those who fly high fast, will land fast as well again.
I will try to get in contact with them.
Thank you!
