Reasons why London is the worst place ever
...according to vice.
I have only been to London maybe 6/7 times in my life (maybe a few more if just passing through) so I can't really comment on a lot of this, but this article seems fairly tongue in cheek anyway. I found it quite entertaining.

For all forum Londonions, do you agree?

Re: Reasons why London is the worst place ever
So help me with this - I'm feeling a bit dense this morning...
They try to make the place nice - instead get overtly expensive, all of which, is immediatly cancelled out due to the level of shitpravity that is actual...
Did I get it right with this headache?

Titles the article "Reasons why London is the worst place ever" then goes on to write about stnuc. stnuc who happen to be in London.
stnuc exist everywhere, London has nothing to do with that.
Poor article even by Vice standards.

The only part I didn't get was where the author said that tourists were "the people who justify the monarchy in a 21st century democratic society". I would think most tourists , from abroad at least, find the idea of a monarchy in today's world quite amusing, if anything.

Re: Reasons why London is the worst place ever
That is quite funny and obviously tongue in cheek but a lot of those things could apply anywhere.
And the thing that plenty of journalists and non-Londoners (or people that have just moved to London) don't get is that only a very small % of Londoners actually go to the cinema in Leicester Sq, have a flat in Zone 1, pay for non-oyster single bus fares....I've just spent a lot more on a weekend out in Birmingham than I usually would in London.

I think what it's saying is that it's amusing that one of the biggest (and only...?) positives about our Royal Family is that they bring in the tourists.fractal wrote:The only part I didn't get was where the author said that tourists were "the people who justify the monarchy in a 21st century democratic society". A friend's biggest complaint was all the Indian's walking around stabbing each other in the eye.
Is there any truth to this?

we should just keep the royals in a zoo where all the tourists can go and gawk at them...hugh wrote:I think what it's saying is that it's amusing that one of the biggest (and only...?) positives about our Royal Family is that they bring in the tourists.fractal wrote:The only part I didn't get was where the author said that tourists were "the people who justify the monarchy in a 21st century democratic society". Re: Reasons why London is the worst place ever
planning / geographgy wise london has some of the highest concentrations of green space for any city in the world...
hackney being the 'greenest' borough ...which is pretty sick.
the parks are plentiful . more so than anywhere else iv lived except perhaps copenhagen

Some of it I agree with, and some of it is utter bollocks.
The bit about the West End is correct. I fucking hate going to Leicester Square or Covent Garden. Its full of absolute knob heads, with no imagination what-so-ever, and overpriced drinks in plastic glasses. I can have exactly the same night, in Croydon, for half the price, and not spend £30 on a cab home.
"Baz, where shall we hit tonight?"
"Dunno Gaz, Leicester Square.....It's fulla clunge!?"
I usually refuse to go there if my mates want a night out there. Clapham isnt too bad, but I get what theyre saying about it.

Re: Reasons why London is the worst place ever
Well Clapham is shit and the West end is fucking shit (btw there's no place called 'central' in London agent47, it doesn't exist)
But then, why would you go out in those places? Why not go to Fabric or Corscia studios or Xoyo or something where they have good lineups?
London is such a massive city you can't generalise about it. Every single borough is massively different.
It is ridiculously expensive to live in though.

Re: Reasons why London is the worst place ever
I kind of hate living in huge cities like that.. I lived in NYC for like 8 years and i hated it in the end.. I still don't have any particular desire to go back there even though my whole family lives there now.
I feel like living in London would be the same.. Maybe i'm just getting old.. Even Amsterdam was too busy for me and it's not that big..
Places like that i love to visit but living there does my head in, too much stress.
