to be honest, i feel good about my music. i wish to improve my mixing and mastering techniques. but i don't worry as long as i am creating a tune. i love the process. having two or more carlsberg or heineken, some nice weed and my workstation is a way to be happy in contrast to my f***ing job. and for me this is it. i won't produce a number one hit. never in my life. but trying to create something cheerful and uprising makes me happy, somehow.

so whatever you're doing musically, keep on doing it.

This is a great topic and I agree with another poster who said that the internet has made music production a double edged sword. You're almost damned if you damned if you don't type thing. I think the important thing is that you create music that you like yourself. I was telling a mate the other day that I love making tunes because I'm able to bring together the different things I like and use them in one song. I make music that I feel is unique and new and has adopted the things I like about a lot of other artists out there. Shit I even made a song with lyrics that was an inside joke between my friends and I as we were growing up. Things like that have really allowed me to keep a personal touch my music and really distinguish it from other artists out there. I produce in a lot of different genres and I truly toot my own horn (listen to my own tunes in my car) lol even though I know they are not professional material, but I just downright like my songs.

One point I want to make is that it's very important to market your music to the appropriate people. For example, on Soundcloud it's critical to place your songs into groups of the appropriate genre. Not that someone might see an Electro track in a Dubstep group and NOT listen to it. But for the simple fact that someone MAY see a Trance track in a Electro House group and skip it. On facebook, I invited my friends who I know like Electronic stuff and when they tell me they like it, I believe em and don't think about it too hard.

In the end I say just keep working hard and continue to grow and evolve as a producer. Just continue to get better and try to appreciate your own work; And always make music you like.

Being your songs, you're always going to love them, because you made them. It's when you start to hate them when you know they're good. Work on a single track for an extensive amount of time and notice yourself go from "This sound cool" to "I'm glad I never have to work on this again." I like for people to see everything I make. If I'm the only one that listens (even though that's usually how it turns out) what's the point in creating it in the first place. I like seeing how artists evolve, so everythign I make is available, despite how I feel about it.

Firstly I fucking love my tunes and don't give a shit what anyone else thinks! Not trying to be a tnuc but I make music selfishly and love it. Unlike a lot of other dudes out there I KNOW I'm going to make it cos I said so! Haha ok so I stand by my sounds and it hasn't always been that way...let me share my secret. I always wondered why the old 60's music has more feel and emotion (IMO) to a lot of music made these days. The thing was back then they had 4 tracks at most and majority of the time bands would play in front of one really good mic. The takes might be edited together but the essence and energy of the band would be captured. Going back to previous comments, there ARE far too many options today and that shit is distracting. I write everything on hardware and record multitrack. Might make numerous cycles of the same thing and then go back and find the bits which I feel work best. This makes the whole process far quicker than working in the box and putting things together bit by bit. I don't hit record until I'm 100% certain that I'm down with my vibe. Once it's in the box the hardware gets turned off and I switch mindset to arrangement. Above all I'm all about capturing the energy of the music, and like in the 60's i might make a few slips but the important thing is that I break my fucking neck when I'm playing the tunes. Oh and instead of listening to other people's opinions I'm lucky enough to have a good mate who I trust - he's brutal with his opinions and I find that a better gauge than having an opinion from someone I've never met who might think my sound is shite and has no idea of my influences etc. Find someone you know you can trust, who knows what sound your going for and bounce from that. If your getting tired of listening to the track your working on, put it away for a week or so or stop being precious and pass it to someone to inject some freshness. Btw love you guys, music is my heartbeat and this forum is the bomb!

I would say that I love the music that I make, yes, because I know how much effort has gone into making it sound the way I wanted it to.

There is one track out of all the electronic tracks I have made that I don't like. It sounds okay, but the drop doesn't really work somehow, and it doesn't capture any particular feeling. I guess that's the main point.

Sometimes I think people can miss the point of art. For me, art is only good if it conjures up some kind of emotion within the beholder. After all, we humans are emotional creatures, and sometimes music can just become so sophisticated and focused on musicianship that it loses its actual musicality, and hence loses its appeal for most people (i.e. hard bop in jazz).

So whenever I realise that my music is becoming too technical or sophisticated, I take a step back and really try to listen to it. If I don't like what I hear, chances are most others won't either, no matter how technically complex or genius it is.

Well if you post your music onto Soundcloud and you get some Downloads from others, then you know someone must like your song enough to download it and want to hear it more than once. Just got to be proactive and get your music heard.
