As for the time question. Spend as much time on a tune as it needs. Some of my tunes have taken a few hours some have tacken a few weeks. Totely depends on each track.

Stick at it though.

not bad first timer. keep working on it (your stylee) also reference some posts in the production thread. some good tips for useing reason there.

good crack for first tune. looks like you got the hang of the drum rhythm and programming ur bass line. just try adding more sounds, maybe some chords and more midrange loops, so the track sounds more full at the moment it sounds a little empty. also you might want to try adding some sub bass to give the track some weight.
