OnlyBoots - Test (Need help, please)

Post by OnlyBoots » Thu Jan 24, 2013 5:53 am

Soundcloud

I'm looking to make a nice heavy track out of this unmastered WIP, but I'm out of ideas as to what to do. I want that Knife Party or Let's Be Friends sound, but I'm having trouble getting there. Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

And before you say "make/stick to your own style," I'm just playing around and want to try something new.

Try having a section where the tempo switches up to 180bpm.

If you're going for that sound then do the classic "boost kick around 100hz, boost snare around 200hz" I know it's been done to death but it'll help beef those drums up a bit.

How should I go about mastering this? I'm guessing Knife Party masters their tracks themselves, but how do they make it sound so vibrant?

@onlyboots I'd actually suggest an outside source for mastering. The skill of mastering takes years and practice to know how to execute it well. Not to mention, having a second pair of ears working on your track is always a plus. Lot's of stuff a producer will miss because they are mentally "too close" to their mix. You can find an engineer for pretty cheap these days, but make sure to scope them out.

Overall, the tune sounds good. Not a big fan of the genre... but you've the got change-ups pretty solid. Keeps the listener interested, which is a good thing.
Keep up the good work :)
