Where is everyone?
Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
ratcub, that snare sounds really bad. its all high end white noise and needs a lot of shaping. layer it with a thumping snare and put a short decay on the volume envelope. you should focus on making a short loop not a whole song at this stage. make something short that sounds good and flows then worry about the arrangement later. focusing on making a good 16/32 bar loop is a lot more productive in my experience.

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
Thank you man, finally an honest opinion. I'm not at my speakers Now so I haven't listened to your beat yet but I will tonight.BaasDNB wrote:ratcub, that snare sounds really bad. its all high end white noise and needs a lot of shaping. layer it with a thumping snare and put a short decay on the volume envelope. you should focus on making a short loop not a whole song at this stage. make something short that sounds good and flows then worry about the arrangement later. focusing on making a good 16/32 bar loop is a lot more productive in my experience.
Quick question, I don't have any VSTs so I'm using mostly abletons simpler, and sampler. I layer synth shots and bass sounds From random sample packs I have and run them through some effects and stuff and works ok for synths and stuff but as far as BASS it's just not heavy at all, is there a way to beef them up?
Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
np. for bass a lot of effects will ruin the low end, like distortion and saturation for instance. in that case you can try using a send effect instead of putting the effect right after. with samples, pretty much you have to start with a bass sound with good low end already. you can eq and tweak it a little, but only so much. also, ableton has some synths that can produce sine waves a i think.. operator?RATCUB wrote:Thank you man, finally an honest opinion. My first intro - what do you think?
Hi! My name is StoneHenge. This is my first actual attempt at making a decent intro. Tell me what you think!

Hey @ratcub
sounds cool, i like it, but i do agree with BassDNB. The snares are really over blown. try shortening the white noise up just a bi
@BassDNB I listened to your track too, its got a good feel to it, but it doesnt catch my interest. Feels like something is missing when I play it. Like there should be more. Maybe a bit more on the mids?
@Hadda, I like yours, but the intro feels a little long. Like it could be shortened up to allow for the speed of it later on.
Im just looking for some critiques on this drop
Im really unsure about it. What I got so far was that the drums were drowned out, so i lowered some levels and heres what I got

I dont want to discourage people who are just starting out, and make them quit and never do music again, but that is fucking terrible mate, I dont even know what that is, the drums getting drowned out is that last of your worries. Everything is harsh and all over the place, there is nothing i like about that.evilmoonmoose wrote:

I have to agree, there is a hell of a lot of noise floating around. Try toning back allyour synths and the distortion you've applied. Instead of trying to make things louder to hear them, make everything else quieter.skimpi wrote:I dont want to discourage people who are just starting out, and make them quit and never do music again, but that is fucking terrible mate, I dont even know what that is, the drums getting drowned out is that last of your worries. Feedback/Collab Request (Hype - WIP)
Hey all,
So I've reached that point in a tune where it's been sitting aside unedited for a few days... you know that feel. Anyhow, was looking for feedback on where I should take this track... or perhaps you want the stems to work along side me.
you know you do...
Anyways, here's the tune. Looking forward to what the forum has to say.

@Hadda
Fire as usual mate,love what you put out.Loving the dark heavy atmosphere and that sub is huuuuge.You and Travis are 2 of my favourite producers on here so keep up the good work.
@evilmoonmoose
To much going on and a serious lack of clarity in the mix,beats are a little bit on the mental side for me and the sound design is waaaaay to brash for me.Don't take the critique to bad because you are a beginner so good things come to those who practice.
@Basdnb
Beats are too under processed for me,kik lacks punch,snare lacks crack and they just sound proper dull.I like the hat pattern but thats about it.sound design is lacking again and really don't like the sound design.For me the whole thing just lacks groove and anything that will keep me interested.Maybe for the drums try layering some more hits underneath,some compression,reverb.....etc
2 from me from my forthcoming ep
This one is just a baby,few hours work here,i have added a lot more since but thought i would try to get feedback on the general feel.The sub is loud at the moment as i haven't mixed it really.
Soundcloud
This one is near finished,just want to extend the second drop/bridge then mixdown.

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
PLEASE STOP HAVING LONG CONVOS IN THIS THREAD IT MAKES IT HARDER TO FIND PEOPLE TO LEAVE FEEDBACK FOR.
Lloydy: First tune: Heavy as hell. Love it. Crazy vibes right there. As you said, the sub can be lowered a bit, other than that its sounding pretty sweet. Second Tune: I really like the vibe you layed out in the intro, the transition was super smooth into your drop section. Love your drums. However, im not sure if its my monitors but your kick sometimes causes a popping sound in my monitors? Odd.
Evilmoonmoose: Jesus Christ. What in fucks sake is this? Ok. Ok. You need to take a step back and REALLY examine what youve made. Its a bunch of random, horrific sounds. I would rather shit in my hands and clap instead of play that again. I think your trying too hard to go in for that dirty brosteppy sound. You have an absurd amount of learning to do. Youtube, the manual even watch masterclasses. Just go learn some more. it will come eventually.
And I apologize but I cant seem to find anyone else to leave feedback for. Too much random shit posts everywhere. Ill drop an extra feedback in my next post.
My tune: Ive been trying to finally establish a style. Im going for a mid range requakey - p0gmanesque sound. This is the first tune of many where im going to try to master the style. Let me know how horrible it is, what i can change etc. Thanks guys.

@evilmoonmoose i actually like it
Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
Yeah not hearing it at the moment,possibly clashing frequency's with the sub and the kik.I think i will have to look into that.antman wrote: Lloydy: However, im not sure if its my monitors but your kick sometimes causes a popping sound in my monitors? Odd.
With your tune as you can tell i'm not really a massive fan of the mid range side to dubstep but thought your wip was actually ok compared to some of the ear shattering brostep you hear in here or the dubs board.I liked the intro,leaves the drop nice and open for more impact.Sound design is really good and the drums are definitely well processed.Note to bassdnb this is what i meant by yours sounding under processed.Drums have a nice punchy clear sound to them,they don't sound like they were just plucked out of any sample pack folder on his hard drive.
Even though it's not my cup of tea i can definitely see the sort of direction you are heading in and think it is very well put together.

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
@lloydy, Really feeling the vibe on both your tunes. I was kind of hoping for a change in the drums after the first breakdown, but overall it was really cool.
@antman, drums and vocal got a bit repetitive but bass sounded nice and clear. going in the right direction...
evilmoonmouse...I think I see what you was trying to do, and I dont know, not really my thing but I respect you trying something different, respect for being creative.
here's something I was working on last week and I made some changes to it from the feedback on here.

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!
@justanotherdj: The little riffs at the beginning are a little weird, like the vox though. That snare sounds a bit sharp in the mix tbh, maybe reel it in some or soften the transient a little. Overall getting some weird vibes from this, don't take this the wrong way but for me the track doesn't seem to "go anywhere" - it gets a little repetitive imo. The mix and production sounds nice though, just needs a little something to spice it up.
@antman: Nice intro and clean drop, I like the drony midrange synth - I'd like to hear more. Not really sure what else to comment as the clip is rather short. One suggestion for a variation later in the track, perhaps have a call and response going on between that main midrange and another synth as otherwise I feel that may become too similar is repeated throughout.
@lloydy: Like the vibes on #1, nice perc especially. Really like the fluttery synth/instrument work and the way the vocals back this up. #2's intro is intense, nice work with the vox samples, I like the drums but at points I feel the delay/verb gets a little too much, perhaps sidechain it at points to the kick to vary up the rhythm? Really nice work overlall though.
New shit from me, wip as always, lacklustre mix & limiting to bring up the level:
Soundcloud
Thoughts on the breakdown/intro bit & synth work?

justanotherdj: Nice groove, some kode9 vibes in it. If you're shooting for that genre you should incorporate the synth from 2.45 more from the beginning playin around with fx, cutoff and so on...
antman: I've seen you here before, and still... Fuckin quality tune, loving it!
lloydy: Cool atmosphere. Only thing i react to as things that could be better would be making the flute/string/thing "darker", and the vocals more sadder
This is more house than dubstep, but i've been posting tunes here before and gotten great feedback, so ill just put this here and hope for the best...

Am I getting close to that sound?
I'm aiming for that Koan sound/Culprate/Reso mid ranged hard hitting sound, since I've spent so much time on this I can't tell if I am getting close or not, a new set of ears would really help me out.
