Joe Nice, that's shocked me, as you mentioned, basically everyone loves him, don't think I've EVER seen a negative post about him, and I'm sure a tonne of his listeners were picked up on a dead forum.

Fuck 'em, if they don't value my support, then I won't bother buying their stuff. Leave that to the dickriders. There's plenty of producers, DJs and labels out there that value their fans and the support they give, and don't consider themselves big enough to criticise them at every opportunity.

I know his twitter is like his soapbox though ranting about all kinds of shit. I like his music for the most part and his sets are usually on point so I tend to ingore the rest of it

I'm kind of in two minds, there are posters (trolls) who deliberately post offensive shit, because of it being the internet and all that entails. And DSF is a bit overrun with them at the moment. And it must be annoying when people who supposedly followed you since day, now claim you're a sell out or you gargle farts for a living. Equally, all the younger fans on here who don't give two shits about Horror Show or Request Line, they're here because of Skrillex and Datsik, they don't give a shit about the history and happy to dump on it.

That said, if you put your work in the public domain, expect to take love and hate for it. Especially in the internet age. I've made the mistake of trying to stick up for some dumb (and terrible) remixes I've done over the years, when really I should have left it well alone. Plasticman is the obvious example in this one, if you're not able to take people commenting on career from which you benefit and make income from being public, then perhaps this isn't the job for you? But then how many Burials would we miss out on if you have to be built to handle public scrutiny before releasing music out there?

Where do you draw the line, people should be allowed to express negative criticism of stuff they don't like, it is a discussion forum after all. But when it becomes offensive, like the hatred and ridiculous statements made about a number of big artists, should the mods step in, issue warnings and edit posts?

There was an interview before, will try and dig it up, basically claiming that hotflush had nothing to do with dubstep, acting like he's always been about techno, whatever, basic pandering to Berlin. And yeah, not wanting to be known for the thing that made your fame and reputation is pretty low IMO. They can chat shit about how the scene is perceived now, or whatever, but it doesn't help that some of the biggest names and originators slag it non-stop. Big up those who are proud of what they created and where it got them.

I loved Triangulation, etc. then he started putting out these basic techno/trance tunes and I switched off. The most shameful thing is that people seem to lose originality when they turn their back on a scene. Fair enough if you're not gonna make dubstep anymore but you go on and do something else original, but when you just fade into the background, makes it even worse.

Yeah, there was a real lack of 4x4 techno tunes in the years that Hotflush were putting out some of the most original dubstep the world would see. Can see why it's taken you 10 years mate. Gutted that you have to put up with all those fans and record buyers and club goers that you gained through dubstep and DSF.

I reckon the dubstep association came from all that dubstep he was putting out.

Panorama Bar on a Sunday, but that's the perfect setting to listen to pretty much anything.

It does seem if you read between the lines that he fell in love with the place, techno (atsome point started making it), moved there and wanted to get away from the association of dubstep in anyway possible.

then made them feel uncomfortable by not being sufficiently obsequious
so, reasonably, they turn to their uncritical fb fandom

Rupert is a stand up guy! Absolutely jokes when we played in Nottingham. I was so drunk I apparently booted either him or Gravious off the decks midset and played again for 20 minutes. Regret/Remember nothing! We also ended up sleeping in the car outside with Superisk and Phaeleh I think, because the promoter lost his mind over the course of the night. XXXY (or Forensics as he then was) took me to some grotty kebab place after. Actually maybe that was the gig in Machester. Fuck I'm glad I don't drink or smoke as much as I used to.
