That's absolutely fine, I would too. No shame in that. But to try and act like dubstep was never part of Hotflush and vice versa is just complete lies.
Johnlenham wrote: It does seem if you read between the lines that he fell in love with the place, techno (atsome point started making it), moved there and wanted to get away from the association of dubstep in anyway possible.
Falling in love with another genre and wanting to make it is fine, we've all done it, none of us here just locked into one genre forever, but as I said above, that's not my issue, it's trying to whitewash dubstep from his history that annoys me, especially as that gave him the reputation and platform for him to start playing the music he does now, and getting some of the big names like Paul Woolford to release with him.

To clear it up, people can take their labels in whatever direction they like, it just annoys when they try to bite the hand that got them to where they are now.

Wasn't fun anymore and we weren't selling enough for it to be financially viable.

The Scuba thing seems pretty disrespectful to be honest in regards to artists he put out in the early years.

Especially as honestly it doesn't really feel to me like a very justifiable thing to say. I mean really it feels like he's not doing anything ground breaking or that he's moved on to something that would take a few years to get to as he is making out that he's done , his set at dimensions was essentially a really bland version of what a lot of others were doing. I was actually bored as fuck listening to it and really no-one was really dancing so much compared to everywhere else. I even heard someone shout at him that it was boring and he should fuck off. Just felt like a clinical approximation of what others at the festival had been doing properly for years.

Fair enough that might be what he loves but to somehow imply that what he had done previously was somehow inferior just loses me a bit and feels more like a trend based thing.

It did at first, but since I've already written more solo and band stuff in the last 3 months than I have all last year. So, silver lining and all. Might even send some demos out to labels. Try that whole releasing music thing too.

Really?, I see so many tunes from everybody here in their sig, or mixes, or advertising. Guess they don't produce it themselves

I really don't have any special connection to 'dubstep'. I don't get personally offended when someone like Scuba is over it, but it does leave me a bad taste in my mouth when they try to dissociate from it to save face and save their ego. I think Roly Vex'd did the same right? "U KNO, VEX'D WAS NEVA DUBSTEP AND THE ONLY DUBSTEP WE LIKE IS MALA AND KODE9 BUT U KNOW, THEY RNT RRRRLLLY DUBSTEP R THEY? THEYS WAY BEYOND IT LOL IMO"

It's really pathetic that they've got to make the whole world clear that they're way too good for dubstep.. except for SOME dubstep... that they think is TOO GOOD FOR 4 DUBSTEP anyway.

I've loved so much music in the past and I've admittedly grown out of it. But it's not the music and it's not that I learned more about 'good music', I just sort of 'heard it' and needed something new. All my old 'favorite bands' are still my 'favorite bands', I just can't really listen to them anymore.

So you have these musicians who helped build up this 'scene' with the promoters, DJs, fans, etc. And these same musicians are looking back and going "Yeah, you know what? I'm actually too good for this compared to you commoners who do love dubstep" is really kind of sad. Back in the day, musicians were arrogant, but at least came across as somewhat seccure of themselves. Right now, a lot of them act like forum members who are proud of their high post count.

There are loads of people who are "above" dubstep now, ironically the same hipsters who scene jump from one sound to the next when it's in that golden period of not quite underground anymore, but not quite excessively popular. That hipster golden area.
The first indication of this was when people started saying they don't make dubstep, but bass music.
Same shit happened in DnB and pretty much every genre, they'll be back or move on to the next hype thing.

Nah, I searched it on DSF and it's a paste from a Tweet of Kuedo's:

"i never made dstep. i just made 140 shit for a while. only dstp i much cared for was kode9, mala + loe, & they were beyond that genre really"

Soo it was Jamie, no Roly. My bad.

That's mad, Jamie used to go to bare dubstep nights in Bristol. You used to see him about quite a bit. Such a shame!

It was offered a fair few times, especially abroad. But alas, I'm practically married and never partook.

So many disappointed guys...
