Re: Big names who shun DSF.
it kinda reminds me of what happened on the old planet mu forums. i remember towards the end of it, the boards were constantly being trolled, there were new members all the time, lots of youth, people only exposed to the dubstep side of that record label. i remember venetian snares having a release close to that time, and it was absolutely destroyed by people just posting the most cunty things to say, it was pretty bad, but funny at the same time. mike p had to lock the thread and i think not short of a couple months later the forum was closed down.

I like that it's finally acceptable to criticize things Mala does.
Hopefully in a few months time we can get over overal dubstep culture conservatism like.
'dubplate culture m8 i mean space and bass and vinyl and whatnot. these things are important because some kooky old men in Jamaica say they are.. Yeah they've been engineering the same fucking songs for years and I think half of all dance hall tunes ever have a sleng teng in there somewhere, but trust me.. holding on to old technology and using old effects is forward thinking! As is sticking to a philosophy constructed in the 60s. Most of us are pretty much anti-religious here, but we'll follow the whole soundsystem culture thing no questions asked'

God forbid people like those sounds, or the ethos and community vibes behind soundsystem culture!
I make music as Forsaken, you can DL all my unreleased (and a couple released) bits here.

I'm down with any sound if it's good or not. But blind adherence to any subculture that takes dark brown piss in the face of rationality in favor of mindless conservatism can kiss mah black ass.pete bubonic wrote:God forbid people like those sounds, or the ethos and community vibes behind soundsystem culture!

Re: Big names who shun DSF.
Well, I always assumed the bass, space, pace principle existed just for the sake of structure. So producers could organize otherwise widely varying sounds into a cohesive culture. Also it sounds nice.

if it already exists you're not allowed to like itpete bubonic wrote:God forbid people like those sounds, or the ethos and community vibes behind soundsystem culture!

Without a decent sound system there isn't much point going to events.
Dubplate culture is at the heart of dubstep and I personally love it. There is something special about hearing a tune only a few people have.

why in the fuck would anyone follow joe nice on twitter?
and tbf if dubstepforum is irrelevant and passe in 2013 I can't think of any better analogy than to say Plastician is the dubstepforum of bass music
scuba could win the lottery tomorrow and find a reason to say the lottery is shit. gold fish in a dixie cup mindset
Same thing happened with DOA... artists that used it as an ego stroke for many years turned coat when the stroking stopped (pendulum, baron, mistabishi, almost every liquid artist ever). Those who were a part of the community and were there to shoot the shit, have fun, and enjoyed the forum outside of furthering their career or getting their shit stroked have oddly enough stayed relevant regardless of career trajectory and are universally loved (Dylan, Raiden, Blumarten, Evol Intent boys, mayhem, AK1200, Dieselboy, etc).
Many moons ago I did work with BPM magazine and did a CD series with a bunch of big djs at the time. They did a bunch of interaction around their cd releases. Loved the site, hyped it, great for the community, etc. As the website got bigger and more people joined the forums same djs slagged it because it wasn't all about them or they werent benefiting from it as much.
Standard artist shit from people who are insecure in their roles for whatever reason.

I remember that shit with Orubasarot pissing everyone off and whatnot. Ironically, I was one of those "youth" you referred to (though I like to think I didn't really do anything to contribute to the downfall).esfandyar wrote:it kinda reminds me of what happened on the old planet mu forums. i remember towards the end of it, the boards were constantly being trolled, there were new members all the time, lots of youth, people only exposed to the dubstep side of that record label. i remember venetian snares having a release close to that time, and it was absolutely destroyed by people just posting the most cunty things to say, it was pretty bad, but funny at the same time. mike p had to lock the thread and i think not short of a couple months later the forum was closed down.![]()

I joined around 2007-2008ish, so there was at least a bit of time before everything went to shit. It was around the time when Snares and T-Toe got into some big argument or something.esfandyar wrote:yea i remember you on therecollige wrote:I remember that shit with Orubasarot pissing everyone off and whatnot. . i thought you were on there way before that mess happened though. at that time i considered myself a youth as well. orubasarot was one of them lol, there was this guy named dankman, and terrence mckenna, bunch of other people who would rant about the most looney tunes shit. that forum, this forum, watmm, doa, all very entertaining stuff
