Favorite Recordstore
Favorite Recordstore
Had a search on the forums and couldn't find any thread about this, thought I'd give it a go and make one.
So, what is your favorite recordstore? Dubstep or not and why do you like it? - Physical or 100% Web-biz.
Mine's definetely http://rwdfwd.com/ for the reasons that there are no digital releases, it's not 100% vinyl, there are prints and clothing plus they're dealing with great labels - almost forgot to mention proper customer service.

Re: Favorite Recordstore
Little shop right by me called The Last Record Store, which is a fitting title considering there aren't any other record stores in the area.
The Rasputin in Berkeley, though, is probably my favorite. 2 floors and a basement full of stuff, and I found Burial's Kindred there, too, which was awesome.
neither store has much to off in the way of dubstep, though, which is sad but not surprising, considering this is California. only stuff I've found there is Kindred and the odd Dubstep Allstars

Big fan of DnR in Croydon, shit load of garage and grime, and they're always well friendly when you go in.

Re: Favorite Recordstore
We are actually quite spoiled living in Cali compared to other states...3 amoebas (sf, berk, hollywood) and a ton of smaller shops in the bay area and LA. Amoeba SF is pretty much always stocked with the latest dubstep releases...ninjiless wrote:Little shop right by me called The Last Record Store, which is a fitting title considering there aren't any other record stores in the area.

At the same time, brick & mortar can't compare to the dubstep and dnb you can buy on the internet from chem or redeye, but i still prefer going into a shop and picking something up rather than receiving records in the mail.

Sounds of the universe - Great selection of reggae and dubstep, really nice store to go in to as well, helpful staff and a nice layout.
rwdfwd - great selection of weird and wonderful music, plenty of flyers/stickers in the packaging.
reggaemusicstore.com - Awesome selection of reggae as well as 320 downloads of old dubplates which is pretty cool.#
Chemical - decent selection, handy if you want to grab some clothes/equipment as well. Liking the new stickers as well, much more discreet.

Re: Favorite Recordstore
rwdfwd for selection, I like basically every release on there. Really hope there'll be more shops popping up that specialise in just a few areas, so can delve really deep and bring you the best.
juno for pure numbers, they might sell out of certain releases pretty quickly and know when they can jack up their prices, but just the amount of records they have makes it fun to look through. They're also probably the quickest online store.
Redeye for customer service, pre-orders and flexibility.
Reggaemusicstore for amazing reggae selection and great prices.
HQ Muzik in Birmingham for the random 2nd hand bits he gets in every now and then.
Hardwax for most terrifying journey to get there.

Re: Favorite Recordstore
the Record Store, Darlinghurst, Sydney
has moved around over the years & survived the demise of at least 5 others in the vicinity of Oxford St,
probably because they found backstreet compact premises.
Stefan's offhand efficiency, Ritual's openess & Jake's enthusiasm make it a welcoming place for bass-music enthusiasts
They do the internet thing but, for me, to be able to sit at decks or hear stuff on decent system is the attraction.
Plenty of variety on the walls & the only place I know where I'm likely to walk in and get Aquatic Lab/Area/Subcontinental.
there's also Mojo Records over near Wynyard, a vinyl-only crypt for old & new band-type music
and Repressed Records in Newtown stocking punk/wierd electronica vinyl and the last place to sell cassette releases...

I buy mostly from Redeye cause I live in the country, but i really enjoyed BM Soho when i was in London. In Melbourne Gutter Hype records is a good visit.
