It's the journey, not the destination.
Re: Where are we going..?
For me the goal is simply just to progress in my abilities and skills. By nature I am a creative person, but I also am a huge procrastinator and tend to take a break on things to go back to other things I really love too. I guess I'm a jack of all trades guy and am interested in a lot of stuff. I work a professional job full time, so my production time is definitely limited and it's difficult to juggle all the things I really like to do in life. But I've been very adamant on pursuing my production dreams and I feel I am getting better so I am happy with where it's heading.
If I have to state my production and music goals, I'd say I would love to make a career out of it. It's something that only time will tell and I know that if I really put my heart and soul into it and it doesn't work out, I have an education and career to obviously fall back on.
If I have complete control - I would quit my job, sell my car, leave my apartment and focus solely on music. There are so many distractions and obligations in life that make it really hard to pursue a music career while working full time, kids, dogs, family etc etc.

My goal is to write 1 really popular song, then defile as many women as I can
My other goal is to write a really good song so that Budspencertron sends me a nude picture of herself
My final goal is to have Gurnumsbug remix one of my tracks

I just love making the tracks, just me sitting alone, immersed in Ableton and thinking of nothing else, smoking a fatty. It's fun. Also a good mate of mines produces too and the feeling you get when you let people hear it, who know what it takes to make it, who aren't just "listeners" - it's good.
Obviously, in an ideal world I could make money from it in some form, I mean who wouldn't like to earn off of doing something fun?
I'm The Nibelheim Incident, and this is my latest free track.

Re: Where are we going..?
I've been making music in some form or another since I was a kid. I love to make music and it's the one thing in life that makes me truly happy so I'll never stop doing it.
But to be able to live solely off of income that comes from making music would be ideal and amazing! Any musician who says other wise is just acting like a self-righteous twat.
I say, you only live once so why not try and make your existence as enjoyable as possible. Of course we're all programmed by society to feel like we need to go to college, then get a job, then get married have kids, buy a house, blah blah blah!! That's not the right path for everyone, certainly not me.
There are so many options these days. Fuck college. I already did that and all I got was a $20,000 bill that I'll probably never pay off. Great way to start life, huh? College is obsolete. You can teach yourself how to do ANYTHING on-line now.
If you want something the only thing stopping you is yourself! If you really set your mind to being a prefessional producer, if you visualize it constantly and spend hours, days weeks working on your craft and think positively you can make it happen. Of course there are other factors involved but all that is stopping you is your level of commitment, and self doubt. The self doubt is programmed into us all. Gotta adapt and over-come.

I hear you're point loud and clear. And you've made very valid (and reasonable) points. This shit requires commitment. More then most people ( self included) truly realize.
It is an ignorant thing to say "fuck school" though. I used to have the same mentality, and it really is the wrong approach to things.
Re: Where are we going..?
Ya, school is good, I guess. I'm just jaded by the fact that I owe a shit ton of $$ and can't even get a job in my field. But I honestly feel college, at least in it's current traditional form, is obsolete. They're are studies that show us how the human brain learns and colleges honestly do it all wrong. I've taught myself more things than I ever learned in college.Crimsonghost wrote:Theo Void wrote:I've been making music in some form or another since I was a kid. Re: Where are we going..?
It may sound shitty but you probably should get a job. There's more than just fast food joints out there to get jobs at. Having money in your pocket and means of keeping that money in your pocket adds a sense of freedom you should really have for yourself. This can also give you the option to pursue schooling of some kind and allow you to move out of your parents house.Gurnumsbug wrote:Basically as the title states..
Where are you going with music?
What's the goal? What happens when you reach said goal?
How are we going to achieve it?
I'm a little in a rut right now as I'm wanting to leave the nest and venture off into the world alone.
With nothing more than a little bit of production knowledge, and a ideas..where can I go?
Schooling is too expensive..I don't want to live at my rents forever..I have no job (don't want to work at a FF joint)
Where is there to go? To do?
Should I stay here, learn, and try to become a 'famous' musician/producer and tour the world? (ha)
Should I work on other things i'm interested in such as..film, photography, digital designing, fashion?
I mean..I'm lost!
Sorry just had to rant a little and get some feedback from you all as well! Mods..technically..this is a technical series of questions..
Feel free to answer those questions above..i'm curious about where you see yourselves as well!
I don't know how old you are but, right now it seems that you are comfortably irresponsible. Sometimes that sense of security that you have right now can cause you to become complacent and lazy. Having those responsibilities could make you look at things differently and help you see what it is you want to do or change in your life.

Re: Where are we going..?
Up until 4 months ago I made $75,000 a year. Not bad for a HS dropout. Since I've gotten laid off I can't even get a job at Starbucks for $8 an hour. All because I didn't go to school.Theo Void wrote: Ya, school is good, I guess. I'm just jaded by the fact that I owe a shit ton of $$ and can't even get a job in my field.
