Take Wen for example, they make dark tunes.. Sick ones at that, but if it was 140 they'd probably be pigeon holed into it as well.
This. Every piece of dubstep that is not bro gets labelled as generic / boring / dungeon. Doesn't matter if it's just beats, sub and atmosphere, if it has a 303 esque lead, if it's almost neuro / techstep sounding or if it's a deep heads style track.

I never got this whole dungeon term as something fresh and new as it just mainly sounds like slowed down neurofunk/techstep with dubstep drum patterns instead of dnb 2step or breaks.
I mean you didn't really hear the term when the early DnB adopters to dubstep were making the stuff, it seemed to be a recent thing by people who felt the need to be some special subgenre splinter group.
Then again that's most subgenres are, relabeling what's been done for ages so they can feel special or unique.
Yeah this post makes most sense... however pretty much all the producers who started/make "dungeon" hate the term and think its stupid as fuck, i despise being pigeon holed into that, like blogs and stuff do when linking/posting your tunes i always see in the tags "dungeon" and its proper irritating, i make dubstep! lol.
I agree. It's a rather restrictive term.

But I don't blame people for people music into categories. Putting things into categories makes it easier describe a sound and to find similar music.
I don't blame people for categorizing, hell it makes finding new music I dig easier, but it get's so ridiculous at times! People get so involved with these niche subgenres and having to belong to something they lose track of the larger picture. "Like you know, I make drumstep at double time, but with dungeon style bass lines..." It's called drum and bass you twat.

What was this thread supposed to be about anyways?

Basically Hircine starting a discussion on the direction of 140,me mis reading biome's quote and ranting about him being a spoilt brat but admitting i still like his stuff to which Perej showed up and told us who care's biiiiooommmeeee is so yeasteryear.
After that a lot of bitching about his quote being misread and then a lot of huge e-dick swinging by forum users over "Dungeon v Bro" then finally the discussion got on the path Hircine probably intended in the first place by your kind self ,Mr widowmaker and my fine friend Bud. :W:

Oi stop spamming man

I mean I dunno about blogs and shit, but I can definitely see a difference between 'dungeon' and like the roots dubstep shit. Both 140, both deep and all about the sub, but not the same. Im not really a fan of much of this dungeon sound, its just too clinical and techy, I like my shit raw and organic ennit.

Biomes post though, I mean like yeah there is alot of people jumping on house and making waste house and techno right now, but its not like all house and techno is 1 loop of shit.

Did I say it was Dungeon? I said people probably would pigeon hole him into it, yeah i'm aware of his tunes. It was just the first example i could think of to get a point across... :cornlol:
