Alright. Let's see... Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pros, Focusrite Saffire 6, & Equator D5's? Sound good? Or would a different interface be a better choice? I have heard tons of great/decent reviews on the Saffire 6 on here/DOA.fragments wrote:I've never owned Berhinger monitors or speakers in general, but I've owned a mixer and some other little pieces of kit (Maybe a MIDI controller) and the build was shit. The mixer traveled a bit, but the FX bleed is so bad now it's collecting dust. Also, many of the I/Os have become unreliable.sofarmusic wrote:So, you're saying Berhinger monitors aren't that good, at least not in the $300-400 range? I really just want some flat monitors that won't fall apart or break within months or years. Like, ones that will have to last me at least the next 3-4 years.fragments wrote:I'm biased against Berhinger generally. But I'd say anything in the price range will be better, build quality wise. That's usually where Berhinger cuts corners in my experience.

The only "good" headphones I've owned are AKG240s, but I've heard plenty of people say they like the 990's. Never owned any Focusrite gear, but again I've heard good things and almost bought a focusrite when I ended up with the MOTU. +1,000 on the D5s. Add that sub later if you feel you need bass. Also, Equator Audio has a 60 day no questions asked money back thing for the D5s. My recommendation is get them hooked up ASAP and run some DJ mixes through them for about 12 hours before you do any serious work on them. Mine really opened up after I did this.

And this, is why I love music forums. Well, specifically this one and DOA, if you couldn't tell.fragments wrote:The only "good" headphones I've owned are AKG240s, but I've heard plenty of people say they like the 990's. you were gonna buy a console and maybe a headphone amp?
but the MOTU interface is too pricey?
honestly save all your trouble and money and time and get a Saphire USB or something similar and spend MORE MONEY ON MONITORS
everything else can be worked with, adjusted, learned, added to, but you won't be downloading updates for your monitors, nor replacing them every so often on a whim. They are the final stage of your signal chain and the closest piece of kit to your ears. invest in speakers that do their job, everything else can wait

I'd argue the Equator Audio D5s are an awesome investment for the money and for a first pair of monitors. Pretty much every review is positive and many speak of them being as good or better than monitors that cost twice as much.

Re: UPGRADE!!!!!1!!!!1111!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!!!
Like, I'm wanting monitors that are GREAT, but since they are only my first ones, and will last a few years, I don't need any that are super expensive, just ones that can get the job done and more. I'm supposed to be moving next year, and that's when I plan to get the big things, as in really build up my own studio, so this stuff is just to get me by, but still doing a good job at doing so. So the D5's, and a Focusrite will do for now.fragments wrote:You make a very valid point.Today wrote:you were gonna buy a console and maybe a headphone amp?
