SKRILLEX UPSTROKE DUB/SKA GUITAR SOUND?

Post by lewislewislewis » Sun Feb 17, 2013 11:50 pm

Hi,

Im quite new to dubstep production, however am working on a track and was wondering if anyone could give me tips/show me a tutorial for making the upstroke dub guitar sound that skrillex uses at the start of equinox - http://youtu.be/TYYyMu3pzL4

I have heard it in a few other tracks by other artists, i have MASSIVE, so could use that to achieve the sound,

Thanks for any help, like i said im VERY new to this

you're kind of answering your own question.
why not find a dub/ska guitar sample and go from there?
If its a real guitar sound you're after then you should look towards Kontakt, not Massive.

piano b2b high passed stacked saws pluck with a bit of white noise for the high end. Then bandpass, saturate a bit and delay -> reverb.

I'm about to blow your mind little dude.

Record a guitar stab, and then stick it between your kick and snare.
Do you say zerbaman? Or do you say zebraman?

Seriously. This can be accomplished in 30 seconds. There's a 90% chance it will sound better than any attempt at synthesizing the sound. Sometimes you just can't beat the real thing.

Not particularly no, but at the end of the day if you want a sample of an upstroke of a guitar chord, I think the most logical thing to do is record it on a guitar.

If you want a real recorded guitar i can easily record it for you (free). Just tell me the chords you want me to play and the tempo. Let me know.

This will blow your minds: they're not skanked guitar chords.

It's a violin that plays the staccato notes with a piano underneath.

I debated recording it myself, however thought it may be else like the last post states 'violin with piano underneath'

Cheers though i will try both techniques and see which sounds best

All I read was how do I synthesize an upbeat skank guitar. Guess I shoulda listened to the track haha. Haven't heard it in a long time. :dunce:
On another note, the stems for make it bun dem had a little guitar chord track in there come to think of it. If you want that gtr sound for something. Just throwin that out there
