2nd Drop Records: Future Foundations

Post by jargs » Wed Feb 27, 2013 2:01 pm

Since launching in 2007 with Ramadanman’s ‘Good Feelin’ – immediately followed by Rusko’s ‘William H Tonkers, now how’s that for diversity? – 2nd Drop have proved to be one of what-once-was-called-dubstep’s most reliable labels, with other releases coming from LV, South London Ordnance, Sully, Gerry Read and Djrum. Both Ordnance and Djrum feature on Future Foundations, as do serial collaborators LV, teaming up with Dan Bowskill for an immediate stand-out from the comp.

A. Alex Coulton – Grande Swing
B. Youandewan - Faith

C1. LV & Dan Bowskill - Livin Up
C2. Pedestrian - Sliding Down Rainbows
D. Last Magpie - Without You

E. Djrum – Blue on Blue (Voodoo)
F1. South London Ordnance - Daphne
F2. Manni Dee & Deft - This One, The Art of Possible

Shiiiiiiiiiit. This is dope.

No bad tracks on it really, but the goodness is certainly near the end of the thing.

Manni Dee's exercise in percussion is great (and what a different sound compared to some of his earlier stuff!). South London Ordnance go in hard as well. But the absolute highlight has to be djrum's Blue On Blue (Voodoo). That's probably the best track I've heard so far this year. That second half is totally lush.

Agree on all, but I'm also loving the Alex Coulton track at the top. Great comp!

First heard that Manni Dee & Deft tune on fracture's aptitude podcast. Corker! Haven't listened to the rest of this yet
