Just a quick rant about the label swamp 81.

Post by dylanlolwut » Sun Mar 03, 2013 3:07 am

i hate the fact i have to wait 81 years for them to release a track. I'm waiting on sooo many fucking tunes to be available to purchase on wav./vinyl yet it takes them month to release anything! Does anyone else have this frustration?

to be fair though, i love swamp and loefah

let's be honest, it's not 81 years, because otherwise we'd still be waiting on the second release.

IMO you should just be glad they are getting a release, and the product that is coming, is what the artist/label intends and wants.

Loefah himself addressed a previous uprise of aggression towards this issue a while ago, you can find it in an interview with the man himself, if you search.

I don't share this frustration

Gabriel Szatan: "So accusations of you guys deliberately sitting on records for a while have calmed down. When it was at its peak 18 months ago did you get pissed off or did you think it was the thing to do, to protect your back and keep yourself above everyone?"

Loefah: "Ah mate, I learnt this back in dubstep: you can’t please all the people all the time. I remember back in the day on Dubstep Forum, people would push things out and you’d be so enraged you’d go on there and blurt it all out, make a big problem for yourself. We’ve all done it. Now, look – if someone doesn’t like it, another person will like it, you know? I think a lot of the accusations were a little over the top but…it wasn’t intentional, at all. It just happened at its own pace. In actual fact, we had a massive backlog of tunes to bring out, and we had a hold-up with one of the records, which made us wait six months, which made the backlog even worse. People don’t know that, do they? They sit at home, they want a tune, an mp3, blah blah blah. If I was a record buyer back then, I would probably be one of the ones leading the charge going “bring it out!” Labels like Prototype Records, back in the day, I waited two years I swear for one tune. We were going mad, hearing all the DJs play it every week; that’s the thing, I get where they’re coming from. It’s how it is. The tunes will come out, it’s good music – I don’t think any tunes on Swamp are really that specific to the time. Well, to a certain extent they are, but they’re good tunes regardless, they’re good tunes a year later."

the longer you wait the more you appreciate it when it comes out. makes the tune last longer than shit disposable ones that you rinse for a month and forget about

i like it, plus you get top quality records and full artwork too

also maybe limit yourself on how many times you hear the song, so that it stays "fresher". Still though if the song is a classic then it shouldn't matter how long you have to wait to get your hands on it. Look at Jah Power Dub that tunes been around for years and I can guarantee that if that tune got a release tomorrow people would be going nuts, because no matter how many times you have heard it it still is a killer tune.

And yes, be patient. How people have been trippin' balls over Asteroids for the last few years, it's so annoying.

+1
There are so many great lost dubs that will never see a release or very limited people have.

Like Loefah being chill about this. Read interviews with any producer, they've forgotten what it's like to be a fan.

people moaning about waiting for releases... i recall in the garage days you had to wait sometimes years for stuff to come out, and there was no internet to track it down, you had to travel to an actual record shop

This. Easy for some of the tunes to get a bit stale when every DJ even slightly related to the label is rinsing them in every set for months before a release is even mentioned. Otherwise don't mind waiting.

init but go to other events, go to a disco/hardcore/gabber night for 2 months straight then the tune wont be so stale anymore

edit: also it has been nearly 2 months since the last sawmpo91 show on rinse which is a long ish time imo
