Nahh mate! definitely 33 for that one as wellgarethom wrote:Nah, u crazy bro. Check out Na Fe Throw It at 45 too.vishes wrote:I actually prefer Aerial at 33 tbh. But yeah I agree that it also sounds great at 45. In fact, I didn't even realise it should be played at 33rpm till weeks after I got it.

Re: Basic Channel/Rhythm & Sound Appreciation
I agree 33 for Na Fe Throw It is better, but 45 is defs better for Aerial.
Re: Basic Channel/Rhythm & Sound Appreciation
Let's just agree to disagree on that then mate
hahah.
Also, doesn't it say a lot about the quality of their music that we're actually having this discussion? I can't think of many other producers whose music can be listened to at different speeds while still sounding great. It's quite unique I think.

Re: Basic Channel/Rhythm & Sound Appreciation
Definitely man. The only other piece I think that sounds good at both is Digital Flora by Zomby.
I'd probably think differently if I'd played Aerial at 33rpm first.

Re: Basic Channel/Rhythm & Sound Appreciation
I used to prefer Rhythm & Sound to Basic Channel but I think it's the other way round these days. Both projects are brilliant though.
Re: Basic Channel/Rhythm & Sound Appreciation
u can play one or 2 of those actress silver cloud at 33/45
some old jump up dnb sounds good on 33 as well tbh

My current Rhythm & Sound collection

R&S 01 - 07
BM 01 - 13
BMX04
MSR 06 - 10
Still really need No Partial though. After that I've pretty much got all the R&S records that I want.

No Partial is the only one I have atm haha. Tempted to buy the whole Maurizio catalogue from Honest Jons and just spend a few days listening to it.vishes wrote:Still really need No Partial though. After that I've pretty much got all the R&S records that I want.
Re: Basic Channel/Rhythm & Sound Appreciation
Yep, targeting Basic Channel first (took me a while to get into some of their fast techno tunes (OctagonMuncey wrote:No Partial is the only one I have atm haha. Re: Basic Channel/Rhythm & Sound Appreciation
Its music I need to own on vinyl to fully appreciate, like a lot of ambient stuff.. I just get too distracted on my laptop and end up not having a clue what I've listened to lol.

Quite like almost all output related to Oswald. Although I'm not really that down with most minimal, it's that dubby sound

I only have BCD and BCD-2. I cannot find any 12s in the store I frequent. I'm sure they're online but I haven't looked. Slacking on music in general.
Re: Basic Channel/Rhythm & Sound Appreciation
Not sure where you live, but the best place to go will probably be hard wax, as they pretty much have everything in. Shipping might be more individually, but you'll save compared to making a bunch of separate orders.atleast13 wrote:I only have BCD and BCD-2. I cannot find any 12s in the store I frequent. Re: Basic Channel/Rhythm & Sound Appreciation
shipping is too expensive for me to afford on hardwax, it's absurd. the shipping alone for five records costs as much as the records themselves
Re: Basic Channel/Rhythm & Sound Appreciation
sad to admit that's the only Basic Channel 12" I got

Next music purchase is those Basic Channel comp CDs for my serato.
Looking forward to the Moritz Von Oswald & Juan Atkins album coming out, the project is called Borderland.

There's lots of great Techno in ^above link.
Basic Channel bringing together Dub and Techno, seemed like it really changed the game in the 90s.
Good to see the Basic Channel influence on the likes of Burial, it takes a special understanding of music to make tracks like those.
What other artists come to mind that have a sorta Basic Channel type sound??

They also put out on Basic Replay my favorite "Reggae" LP of all time, Keith Hudson's 'Playing it Cool'

Re: Basic Channel/Rhythm & Sound Appreciation
Ah, that's too bad man. Costs me about £2 a record I'd estimate, which is better for me than ordering off 3 or 4 different discogs sellers/record stores.Phigure wrote:shipping is too expensive for me to afford on hardwax, it's absurd. the shipping alone for five records costs as much as the records themselves
Re: Basic Channel/Rhythm & Sound Appreciation
its alright, cause if i was able to reasonably buy on hardwax i'd be broke
