lol not sure if joking or..but no the dude who turned into contortionist man was not bitten, he got acid on his face.
Re: Prometheus / General scifi discussion
nope, ur wrong mate about that guy, a prometheus saved him and charlize theron in his little spaceship before they got crushed by the giant spaceship. steven spielberg implied charlize theron and a prometheus "hooked up" and thats where mankind came from.

Re: Prometheus / General scifi discussion
so after seeing primer pop up in here a few times. I gave the movie another go over the weekend (I hadn't seen it for maybe 6 years and even then I suppose I really hadn't bothered with 'trying to understand' everything, just watched it stoned and thought, cool loads of mindfuckery what did I just watch?).
I suppose as far as time travel goes on a 7000$ budget, it is indeed a rather amazing movie. But I don't know, in the end this is more a detective movie with a non-lineair plot centred around time travel. And it is enjoyable to puzzle it together writing some things down on pieces of paper afterwards. Enjoyable but not a sci-fi classic for me (but then again as others have noted, I am more prone to dark space stuff in terms of sci-fi). For me it never really delved into the morality of the concept either. Yes there's a power game between the two protagonists and a few moral sidesteps are made, but nothing dramatic to be honest.
I haven't figured to movie out completely yet. But don't feel the urge to do so as I liked being confused as I can imagine, the protagonists who are much more smarter than I am, were themselves. Hence, I won't be seeing it again soon, trying to figure it out (it was not good enough for that, even though it is solid).
Still, one or two questions I'd like to ask :
SPOILERS !
The main question to which I have failed to produce the answer myself is concerning the failsafe devices. We know Abe built the first failsafe, but then Aaron replaces that with one he brings himself into the time machine (so he can use the earliest failsafe) and he uses the second one he brought on a later timeline (to record the tapes, drug the original Aaron etc.). But which machines are these? Are these another two separate machines built by Aaron? Or has he simply taken the original devices with him inside his failsafe? That is really puzzling my noodle as I can't see how he would have had time, even with two of them playing out most of the timelines. (except for Original Aaron stuck on the attic).

Re: Prometheus / General scifi discussion
I had high hopes for Prometheus before it degenerated into a really fucking silly monster movie. What a load of shit it was.
Edit: and everyone was mentioning inconsistencies in the story so I might as well chip in..
HOW THE FUCK DID THAT GIANT OCTOPUS THING GROW SO FRICKIN' HUGE WHEN IT WAS LOCKED UP IN A ROOM WITH NO WAY ENOUGH NUTRIENTS TO FEED ON? IT WAS LIKE 'LOL SMALL' AND THEN BOOM FUCKING HUGE.
..don't really care doe. Just something that struck me as odd. It's just a movie.

Re: Prometheus / General scifi discussion
Bit of a thread revival going on here, but just got round to watching this tonight.
Thought it was pretty good tbh. Kept me interested... definitely looking forward to the second one. It seems like most people hating on this sees it as a single movie as such, whereas if you look at it as an intro to a new trilogy, I don't see why you'd have a problem with it.

Yeah mate dubstep's cool. Kinda prefer tech house these days. Gnome sayin'
Re: Prometheus / General scifi discussion
because it is also shit in a technical sense. And a few lasers and shots of a planet in cgi and a spaceship crashing don't cover that for mekayzee wrote:Bit of a thread revival going on here, but just got round to watching this tonight.

I don't want to be up the ass of people who did enjoy this. But it was personal, I was so looking forward to this reviving the great tradition of sci-fi movies of the seventies and eighties, and obviously it didn't. It was a slap in my face. It was like watching LOST or some other overrated crap that doesn't care about the viewer, only about the dollar, the yen, come back again!

I can't say it wasn't interesting, there were some very interesting bits that really did need more exploring. What made me hate the movie was the characters. I didn't actually care about any of them. In fact, I was hoping that they would all die as quickly as possible.kayzee wrote:Bit of a thread revival going on here, but just got round to watching this tonight.

Re: Prometheus / General scifi discussion
How can lost even come up as a discussion point.
How many series were they on that island?
15 too many.

Re: Prometheus / General scifi discussion
Stargate atlantis is very enjoyable. Also a ship called Prometheus mentioned in it and the ancients etc.
The bad guys look a bit shit though to begin with but as the series progress they look more legit. The characters are all quite like-able too.

Accion Mutante - worth looking up - like if Almodovar made a back to the future.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106215/
Enemy mine - old classic. Alien bromancing while stranded on a big muddy pooh planet.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089092/?ref_=sr_1
Suture - grim, black and white - higly aesthetic biz.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108260/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
Eden log - gorgeous visually and different.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1087842/?ref_=sr_1
Solyaris - this one must've come up already - one of the best films I've seen.

Re: Prometheus / General scifi discussion
I've never been so obsessed with a show in all honesty... watched every episode for an hour, then discussed it for an hour, then went online and read about it for an hour.AntlionUK wrote:really? Don't get me wrong the ending was complete shit, but I've never enjoyed watching a show more I don't think.
(Red Dwarf series 1-6 is my favourite show of all time btw)

Am I a tough audience? Here's my conclusion for 2012 :
Movies that I'd actually recommend :
> Tyrannosaur (2011 - released in Belgium in 2012)
> Shame (2011 - Released in Belgium in 2012)
> Samsara (2011 - Released in Belgium in 2012)
> Jiro Dreams of Sushi
> Amour
Another couple were decent enough but are still flawed in some way :
> Seven Psychopaths
> Take Shelter (2011 - Released in Belgium in 2012)
Movies that simply don't cut it for me + one reason why. I didn't even finish most of these:
> Prometheus (see thread)
> The Dark Knight Rises (drawn out with no concept of time thus looses all tension, wet fart in a bottle and not a fitting end to the series)
> The Avengers (never read the comic, but walked out when the submarine started flying out of pure disinterest)
> Life of Pi (had read the book, this adds nothing to that, annoyed to death by the Indian accents, CGI wankfest...)
> Argo (so boring, a confused film that is unsure of where it is supposed to go, suppose it is more interesting if you are American)
> Skyfall (never was big on bond... the previous one was so traumatic that it erased all my future interest in bond movies)
> Cloud Atlas (horrible, bad acting AND a stupendous cast, retarded lingo used in the future, too much shifts in mood between the surprisingly unprofound segments)
> Looper (just watch Primer instead)
> Dredd (At least it knows what it is, a brainless action flick that does not aim higher: that is commendable)
> Lawless (flat in every way)
I haven't seen a couple yet: Beasts of the Southern Wild, Anna Karenina, Intouchables
Re: Prometheus / General scifi discussion
The Dark Knight Rises' pacing was great. I prefered the movie to the other two, though the bit with Wayne trapped in the prison and escaping was kinda cheesy.
