Bass (genre) Sound Design

I've been listening to a lot of Asa's stuff (which I HIGHLY recommend to you all) lately and I wanted to know more about making this kind of music. I've always had an interest in making minimal tunes like this but I really get stumped on synthesis. I understand slow ADSR and all, but other than that I really have no clue what to use to make the synths used. A lot of it is stringy stuff I know that, but I can never apply what I know correctly.

Also, and more importantly, drums:
At 1.27 there's an 808 that kind of plays 3 times and pitches down each hit, how do I make that? (All 808s and sampling techniques I tried sounded shit). In minimal music, a lot of the chosen samples are like perc hits and stuff, but I can never get it to sound nice. What are some good filtering/eqing processes for this kind of music?

TLDR; throw me everything you know about making minimal bass music! :W:
