Moving To L.A, Cali for ICON Collective Production School!
I start the Spring semester which is on April 1st and lasts for 9 months!
Great vid from them btw.
It's going to be an adventure for sure...getting out of the city I've lived in for most of my life and away from the good and the bad to start something new.
I'm leaving in a couple days from Colorado to California..I'll let everyone know how it goes!

Transferring from a state where pot is legal, to another state where pot is basically legal, lucky man. I would kill to do something like this away from home. Have fun man! Really great opportunity. Hope everything works out for you. Good luck!ChromaRhythm wrote:I start the Spring semester which is on April 1st and lasts for 9 months!

@DJ Rephlex haha too bad my marijuana card isn't going to work in Cali. I'd have to get a new one/pay a new fee.
@Hypefiend http://www.learn2produce.com/ ??? Steve Duda(Made Xfer VSTs), Mark Knight, Bad Boy Bill, Morgan Page etc. etc. as Icon Advisors...what more can you ask for? And Deadmau5, Figure, Protohype, Schoolboy and other top artists always roll through.
Where's your music Hypefiend? Where's your "talent"? Because $$$ can't buy talent I'm sorry.
@Frenchboy You're one of the most useless forum-users/"producer" I've ever seen. Shut the fuck up.

If you have to defend it like that then you are clearly doubting/regretting your decision a little

The people who made money in the goldrush werent the miners they were the people selling shovels.
These people are selling you dreams.
They talk a lot about letting go of your fear which is definitely a good point but you need to let go of your ego which is the opposite of this video.
They talk about unleashing your creativity, but do you honestly want to go to school to 'learn' how to do that?
You talk about how Deadmaus and people roll thru, beyond a motivational success story or random production technique what do you expect of them?
Its really positive that you want to learn and create and everything else that goes with music, but the best way to learn is to do. "This is where you are at now" to quote the video.
Im not trying to be negative at all just trying to get you to ask some questions of yourself.
Ps. feel free to flame me, but think about what Im saying

waste of money and time. Those who can't do, teach.
you'll learn more just setting your mind to it and tinkering about.

I wouldn't say that school is a waste of money. A lot of people perform well/better in a school setting. If you're not one of those people who are academically intelligent then it's a waste of money. I personally would never go to any school even if it was free, it would be wasted.
There's definitely a lot of marketing involve though. Those schools are businesses feeding on soon to be broken dreams. Most people who graduate probably never use anything they learn.

Free would be worth checking out. These schools on the other hand are usually a joke. Sure, you might get some good info, but there usually retardedly expensive and aren't going to help you in a real life. Best bet, is to find a studio and see if you can apprentice there.
Re: Moving To L.A, Cali for ICON Collective Production Schoo
that's a bit of a sweeping generalisation really. Depends on the school in question as well as the staff.Today wrote:waste of money and time. Those who can't do, teach.

I teach music production for a living, and I personally wouldn't say I "can't do"

$15k?Digitial Music Production Courses
Nine-Month L.A. Course
Tuition: $15,000
Application Fee: $75.00
Tuition does NOT include required laptop and software.
Each student is required to have an Apple laptop compatible with the software used in our curriculum. Contact us for more details.

Damn son, that's about what I spent on my actual 4yrs of University getting my business degree

What's the end product of the 9 months? Certification/qualification/graduate job placement etc?
Re: Moving To L.A, Cali for ICON Collective Production Schoo
Fuck off, $15000 for 9 months? + You *need* a macbook pro so thats another $2000 if you dont have one + Software (will they allow pirate copies? If not thats another small stack of cash).
IMO if I had to chose one of these production schools to go to it would be Dubspot. If their youtube tutorials are anything to go by you would learn a fair bit, the "classrooms" look awesome, its $1000 cheaper and you don't have to provide your own software and computer and you get more teaching time for your money

Re: Moving To L.A, Cali for ICON Collective Production Schoo
M8 what a waste of money, you will most likely not get a job out of it & you could look up most of the things they would have taught you.
Don't get mad at people because you are uncertain about taking this course.
