Yo
Just wondering if any of you guys own an EMU and if you have any beginner tips you wanna share
I just got a E5000 Ultra yesterday and already fallen in love with it, but info on how it works is somewhat scarce (There's only like 3 tutorials on YT)
I tried signing up to emusonacid (
http://www.emusonacid.co.uk/forum/index.php) a few days ago but i still haven't recieved the activation email, so anyone up for sharing EMU info in this thread instead ?
Thanks

I have a 6400 Ultra. I'm by no means a wizard / expert with it (and I'm talking about both using the EOS and/or hardware maintenance of it), and I'm no where near where I want to be with "sound" from it, but I'm willing to try to figure stuff out and record video. I threw these up a couple months ago, mainly just showing how I set-up my cords (which is similar to a matrix section on most soft synths) for an 808 bass patch:

And my big piece of advice is to go through posts on Dogs On Acid and EMUs On Acid, take note of anything that sounds interesting to you, try it out, and build from there. There is a lot of tacit knowledge about it, so it is difficult to just jump in with it as you're only getting bits and pieces from several different sources. I think that factor frustrates a lot of people because they're used to finding info on DAWs and soft-synths super quick, but EMU EOS info is sparse, and a lot of times it's people (like me) not much further along. The real gurus are either out of practice, out of contact range, or keeping their knowledge super close, which is understandable to me. You want a unique sound, you have to hold back some info.

Can you send signal through? (I know how it works for sampling, just not sure if I can use one as an insert)

I dunno if you can do that or not. My guess is that the answer is probably no. Honestly if that's all you want to do and it doesn't have to be that E-MU sound I'd look into something like an Electrix Filter Factory. Straight forward analog stereo filter w/ HP, LP, BP, and Notch... filter follower, some other nice features. Just got one myself.

Glad I ended up not paying much for the E-MU, more trouble than it's worth. Really made me appreciate working in a DAW! I didn't end up getting one of the EMUs with z plane fitlers that everyone is crazy for.

I have tried the Emulator X3, the VST plugin. It was absolutely ghastly. I'm not sure how it compares to the hardware units? But the VST had the most unintuitive interface i've used, the filters sounded crappy and automation didn't seem to work with Cubase.
Are the filters on the hardware unit that good? Are they digital or analog?

Some of the units have filters that people liked for neurofunk style basslines. I found using the real one incredibly frustrating. I mean, I got it...but wasn't worth it on the EMU 32i or whatever the fuck I bought :/
I'm pretty sure they are actually digital filters, even the ones people are on about.
