Indigo - 5th birthday mix

HERE

Indigo has been blurring the ethereal boundaries between Techno, Dubstep and Electronica since a self-released debut 12″ back in 2008. While others are content to find a groove and settle, Indigo has remained ever fluid with releases on labels as diverse as Exit Records, Tectonic, Brownswood, On the Edge and his own Mindset Records imprint.

The magnetic pull and promise of Manchester is one keenly felt by all who grow up within its radius and Indigo’s explorations into the city’s burgeoning electronic music scene provided both limitless inspiration and a sounding board against which to test his early productions. Part of a fresh wave of talent experimenting with the possibilities a lower frequency range, his sound developed at a rapid rate. With deep roots in Manchester’s Electronica history, Indigo’s productions have always explored the meeting point between sub bass and locked grooves, hints of Bristol weight and the dissonance of Berlin set seamlessly against the innate melancholy of the North.

At the advent of the much feted Autonomic movement, Indigo, alongside long term production partner Synkro, was one of the first of many artists to move up the BPM range and experiment again with Drum & Bass tempos. His sound fell flawlessly into place within the limitless environs of Autonomic. Timeless and powerfully emotive tracks such as ‘Guidance’, with Synkro and his own production ‘Time’ captivated audiences and broke new ground, further expanding the growing notion that genre was a dying term.

Mancunians never have been in thrall of the purported dominance of London, choosing always to dance to their own tunes, and Indigo embodies this spirit more than most. His & Synkro’s label, Mindset Records has a music policy that has always resolutely ignored the cult of cool as decreed by ‘tastemakers’. Running against the grain and choosing to give a platform to those whose sound fell outside the parameters set by others was a move which has clearly paid off.

With a host of continental shows under his belt, DJ support from Modeselektor, dBridge, Rob Booth, DJ Pete and Mary Anne Hobbs, and with a 2012 schedule that includes more than one side project and releases on some well-respected labels, Indigo’s impressive rise looks set to continue.

Desto

Image

"Desto is licensed to really explore his tastes fully, triangulating a sound somewhere between Kuedo and the Autonomic crew’s sci-fi aesthetics, and the kind of rugged, road-wise slow/fast fusions also explored by Kode 9, Zomby or Actress. It’s exquisitely executed and gotta rank as one of the finest ‘bass music’ LPs we’ve heard this year so far" - Boomkat

“I chose a bunch of my favourite sounds i’ve found scattered across genres that fit my sets and communicate with my ‘Emptier Streets’ album tracks that make the core of the mix. I don’t enjoy genrefication as it restricts creativity. While boundaries are necessary it is as vital to break them in order to discover new realms in sound. On a perfect night out people let their hair down and discover something new in the darkness of the dancefloor and that’s what i’m in it for” Desto
