@subfect - Old school feel, I like it.

@Rejinx - Very creepy atmosphere. I could see this song on the main screen music of a video game.

@Blak - Pleasant simplistic variety in the intro. Once the energy picked up I thought it was awesome.

I am trying to improve my mixing and composition. I have a tendency to try and cram too many instruments in, so I wanted to go for quality not quantity. This is an intro I have been working on all week. Tell me what I can improve on.

^^^ that wobble is too scratchy, distorted. just sounds like noise. try EQing it as its taking up alot of frequencies taking up too much headroom.

@Hide_One

Love the intro synths,really original sounding intro.The techno type stab could maybe be a bit bigger,like make it huge with verb and really bring it out,it sounds awesome just needs to be a little bigger.
Everything about the track i feel is really good and it sounds so different to normal stuff posted which is a good thing.
That sub on the breakdown nearly had me coming in my pants!!!
Brilliant tune brutha,feeling it big time.

@Hashkey
Intro is dark as fuck!!
Drop is nice drums just lack a bit of punch.The sub and the kick sound nice and sit well together but the snare just lacks a bit of presence.
I feel the drop just sounds a little to tame with that really dark intro,it fits perfectly but just drops in a little weak on the impact side of things.
Maybe boosting the snare and hats might do the trick to add the present it seems to be lacking.
Sound design is spot on,everything sounds really well created and the vocal on the break is quality.
Mixdown is nice,sounds clean but still with added warmth which is a nice touch.
Nice production real real nice.

@Dotcurrency
Well not a massive fan of the content but it is really well put together.
On the mastering front,i'm listening on beer 770 pro's and shit sounds sweeeeeet.
Kick and sub sound fucking huge and the mix sounds so so clean.
If this is your first sttempt at mastering i take my internet hat off to you because it sounds spot on.

@Gaol
Again synths on the intro sound nice,got a real plucky sound to them.
Intro drums can do with some serious work though,sounding pretty weak on my cans.Snare is near nonexistent.
Drop is ok,not my sort of thing but the sound design is fairly decent,again though drums need some serious beefing up,just not sitting in the mix right for me.
Everything else is beefy as fuck with loads of bottom end but it sort of kills the drums.
For me layer the drums or even just try bringing the volume up a bit on the drum bus or drum channels.
Nice track just not really my sort of thing.

@Acro
Well again brilliant intro.Love the lead synth at the beginning too.
Not so sure about the drop,mix needs definite work,things just sound way to messy as it is.I like the drum work and if i'm honest half expected a trap tune so glad it never went that route.
I like the overall idea just think there is some serious work that the mix needs.

@Faare Faced
Track is most certainly not for me so not really going to comment to much on the content.
Sound design for me is stunning and i feel the machine gun bass doesn't really fit.I can see what your saying about it sounding good as stand alone sound but sonically it doesn't fit the other sounds.
Mix is good,maybe a bit loud but sounds pretty tight.

@The wiggle baron
Love the drums on the intro,kick sounds a little to dull but i will wait and see how it progresses first.
The drop is really different and i like the vocal/synth sound you used.Maybe the drops a little quite for me so lacks a bit of impact from the transition from the intro.
Maybe some top end on the kick,it does sound really lifeless so just layer it maybe?
The arrangement gets a little boring so needs work.
Overall nice a tune with a fairly decent mixdown.

@RandoRando
Nice intro mate,synth line is really full of suspense with a touch of dread which i feel goes really well with the vocal.
Sound design is fucking ace mate,drums sound wicked and mixdown is tight as.
Not really a lot to add because it is a really decent tune.
Love the pad/strings in the background,love the fact it's bro with not being too bro if you get me.Very Reso-esque.
Big tune brother

Right heres mine,pretty short at the moment.Most of the elements in there i will spread over the arrangement but maybe add some sax on a bridge later on.
Let me know what you think!

@RandoRando amazing bass when it drops in at the beginning!!! Definitely gotta learn some more programming so i can get something to sound that good!

@Hide_One love the track; nice kinda DnB feel to it, and i lvoe the simplicity, though im sure it wasnt too easy when you were laying it out. Mad respect!

@ Hashkey great minimal feel to your track. I could seriously use some lessons in how you do your drum patterns cuz mine aren't nearly as good. I really dig the vibe on the track too!

Well, here's a track I've been working on the last few days; a work in progress, but i'd love some feedback on it if you guys have the time. Ideas are welcome!

@lloydy: Intro pianos are sweet, are they sampled or sequenced? The perc is great too. The pads and bass work well together and the little vocal flutters definitely add a nice extra layer. So far the mix sounds good, everything is clear and pronounced. I'd don't really have much to criticise, I'd like to see where this track goes.

@Ape Lust: Lol you realise you gam feedback to people on Page 1? The tracks got a nice idea, but I'd clean up the wobble a bit, seems too crunchy. The chip sounds on the lead suit the style I think you're going for too. The mix is muddy, you definitely need to bring out the kick and snare, all I'm catching of the snare is the top end white noise. Try and clean out the mix for the drums and make them punchier.

@BloodySnort: Man I'd lose the oioioi sounds tbh, they're way overused. Tbh I'd work on the sound design you have first before anything else, to try and improve the midranges you have to be less "generic" then try and improve the syncopation between the midranges and other elements (some pads or stabs might be nice). Mix seems okay, although the toms sound a little misplaced.

@RandoRando: Loving the prometheus samples. Sound design is quite cool, I love the little fluttering phasey reese thats at 1.04ish. Imo I'd work on your drums a bit to really get your kick punching through the midrange, some reverb on the snare might be nice too as it seems really dry. I'd also have a break somewhere, especially from the pads, maybe only a small choke before redropping into the reesey stuff.

@FAARE FACED:I literally meant cut it out, as in stop it for little breaks then reintroduce it.

I updated the track I posted previously, although I just realised the fucking tapestop bits have triggered in the wrong place and I'm tired to fix them now :x

Soundcloud

Also got this brand new track too, pretty much done just tweaks to the mix to do imo...

@mthrfnk i love the song its really cool how you stop it. i would prefer it to have some sort of atmosphere maybe or somekinda sound in the break tho just to kinda not stop the listener everytime. less tension but you dont have to listen to me.

@loydy good sounds i love how its mixed together. its not really what i like but i guess id have to say that you could have more bass in it. im not feeling the deep strong good feeling i normally hear in these songs

@apelust cant hear the snare very well. im not a master at mixing and what sounds good or not but i think the snare should snap much much moreee.

hey guys this is a hardcore really heavy song im working on. this might not be for you but i just need some technical feedback if you guys can muster up some for me. also just tell me anything really haha if you like a certain sound or hate a different one. thanksss cheers

p.s. i need tips on mixing down fx (sweeps, atmos, etc) and spoken words rather than singing vocals. if you have tips please add in if you can

@acro - Really sweet sounds and great arrangement. Mix is pretty clean as well, the only thing I have to say is how much i hate that YOOOOOOOOOOYYYYYYOOOOOOYOYYYYYYY sound when it drops. Ruins the tune you've made.

@Hashkey - love this one! Super deep stuff. Sounds really smooth. Nothing to complain about.

@Faarefaced - Not my style at all. It sounds cool but I just couldn't get my head bopping after your drop, it just sounds like your trying to push too many sounds into the track. Individually your sounds are really fat but together I'm like, what am I listening to.

@Ada - Never heard the original but this sounds smooth as hell. Really dig this one. I dont see anything you should change.

@RandoRando- Nice! Bass really smashes the ears (in a good way) The only thing I have to say, was that I couldn't hear any sub bass. Im not sure if my monitors are just too shitty for your track or what. Good stuff!

Heres my track!

@acro Really good on synthesis and song structure

@antman Love the drums and the over all feel of it, reminds me of old school

@lloydy Love your synths, and the drum pattern is unique, everything fits so nicely

@KoastEDM...I like the intro's groove, but I feel like the sound can be filled out a lot more. When it actually gets to the breakdown or whatever I really want to hear some movement/variation in that lead sound. Maybe turn the drums down a bit.

@lloydy....Not much to say here, liking the mix as a whole so far.

@chaewood
need to turn down that big bang at the beginning because it nearly blew my eardrums lol
Sort of like the intro until the drums start going mental and it all becomes a little messy.Also the drop does not no way suit the intro,it is just too weak like no sub whatsoever weak.Sound design is errrrrrr not really for me.
Drums have less impact then the drop,snare may aswell be just white noise and the kick just is not there at all.The drums for me need a loooooot more impact.
If you was to tidy the intro up a touch and then beef the drop and the drums up maybe it would be ok but there just isn't much for me to latch onto.
Sorry for being harsh but that is what i hear!

@Flywheel
Intro is marvellous,love the stubby lead and the drum programming is pretty tight.
The bass before the drop is really nice and beefy.
Really feeling the sound design,again not my type of music but i can appreciate on a level.It is definitely well put together.
Only critique would maybe beef the drums more to give them a real thumping feel,loads of room for a boomy kick as there isn't really a huge sub.Snare as well could do with a lot more crack to it,could be a volume thing.I would definitely take the reverb off the snare and leave it dry for a track like this and just work the snare so it really does crack.

@KoastEDM
Errrrrrrr interesting tune.Not a fan of the idea because i'm not sure what you was aiming for.I mean it all sounds in tune and the mix is surprisingly not bad at all but it just sounds in-between that 8 bit sound and basic waveforms so hard to comment on sound design or anything else.
You sound like a pretty new producer so the only critique i will give is arrangement interest is so important from bass,drums,leads so practice on that and design!

Right a little re-up of mine,a lot more added and arrangement extended.Snare has had some serious work as well as mix.Tried to change the perc's every 4 bars to really add to the groove of the track.
Let me know what you think

Posting again because I got skipped -_-

LLoydy: Love this one. Really smooth grooooove. Sub hits really nice too. I also dig your random little wubs that come in. And the vocals! Realllllllyyyyyy smooth stuff.

Chasewood: Uh... I dont know what to say here. Your right I guess its not for everyone but.. I don't really hear much I can judge. It seems like a bunch of jumbled noises to me.

Flywheel: I like it, but it seems like theres too much reverb going on. The WHOLE track sounds like its drenched in reverb. I would also like to hear a sub bass.

My tune:

It would seem to be so..... A puddle of reverb randomly plays whenever I open this project file; that should've been my first indicator....

Your track is nice. It sounds really clean. Of course I could make plenty of suggestions of what to add to fill out the sound, but that's according to my own taste. I know a lot of people around here like that minimal dub groove. As minimal dub goes, yours is sounding pretty good. Is it just me, or do the notes in that opening whistle kind of clash together?

@covertdubs love the hats that come in at 1.10, great mixdown, maybe at the end of every 16/32 bars for the bass, bring the last 2 bars up to two different notes just to give it a melodic edge, could sound sweet!

@antman great mid bass sound youve got going, drums are nice too, maybe try and group the drum components together then compress the group, just so it squeezes the drums together and makes them a bit louder, also you might want to lowpass the sub bass down to like 120hz, just so the mid bass has a bit more room!

@commontide kick and bass sitting in real nicely, the modulation on the bass at 1.22 works well too, id do more of that throughout personally! only thing lacking is maybe some progressive sounds as the tracks going along, maybe changing the bass from a 2 bar to a 4 bar melody half way through the track as well might add a little bit more energy.

heres my track ive just finished, i know its not dubstep but i see people post electro house on here so i thought a bit of normal house or whatever it is couldnt do any harm, probably not everyones cup of tea either, who knows!

@LukeRaith -- The vibe in that beat is awesome, sounding really 909y. The resonant bass synth helps towards the retro sound for sure. The little plucky thing coming in a bit before the 3:00 can be a bit louder, but not too much, i like the background atmosphere it has. The delay on it seems very random though. The snare might be tiny tad too "roomy", although, again, it helps towards the oldskool sound. I have been listening to too much deadmau5 lately. The arrangement is nice but i think you could cut a few bars from it, it seems pretty long without any real breakdowns or bridge sections.

@covertdubs -- That atmospheric pad is smooth. The other atmospherics however seem a bit "flat" and lifeless to me. I'd say, don't be afraid to put it some weird dynamics in stuff like this. As for the drop, it's real nice but the percussion could use some stereo imaging (pan it around and reverb/delay it a bit more) Stereo width is your best friend with music like this. I also feel like the reesey bass would suit the music better if it were more minimal and maybe lowpassed (alix perez style). That's probably just me though. definitely got some potential. When it cuts to the breakdown at 2:45, have something from the drop reverbing out or a whitenoise blast or something, so the transition is smoother.

@antman -- Your snare lacks reverb for that kinda music, and the overal track needs more stereoness. It needs some filling up as well, there's too few elements to really make this work, especially with the lack of reverb. I'd say add some percussion, maybe a shaker that goes in a straight 332 pattern. For percussion it's always nice to drum on your desk so you know what feels right with the mood of the track. Basically, the less elements you use, the more you're gonna have to drench it in reverb and delay for it to work as a finished mix. Especially now there's not really anything in the upper midrange thingy. You could add some more hats with a decent body or another random sample or synth. Just to fill the spectrum in a minimal fashion.

Ite, my turn. This isn't dubstep i guess but i think it'll fit it in here. Trap with future garage kinda influences.
Soundcloud
Personally i feel like there's a lot wrong in the mixdown, but i can't really put my finger on it. Thanks for listening!

@Flywheel love the intro pad man, sounds real inviting and swelling, though i feel like the drums could stand out a little more, but maybe theyre not really meant to in your track (idk, im not all that great myself and you'll hear).

@lloyd the pianos combined with the gritty atmostphere really give it a big feel, great job mate!

well, i took some of the advice i got from some of the guys on this forum and pumped my drums up a little and did some work on the basslines. i know its really not as great as almost ANYTHING else being posted on this forum, but i appreciate all feedback and advice. ive only been at this for a few weeks, but i think im making decent progress.

@3D_Shades: The drums and wobbles are quite boring tbh, altough you said you've just started. This might seem condescending but... dubstep isn't just drums and wobbles. You need to think about adding lead lines, pads, backing elements, FX (sweeps/blips etc) and think about your structuring - intro/build/drop/break/build/drop is a super generic formula you could follow. By creating a fuller sounding track with a nice structure you're going to make a much better sounding track.

@RmoniK: Vocals slayed me, love them man. The slow building pad is nice upto the main chunk of the track. As for mixdown issues I'm not sure what you mean, if I had to be critical I'd say the sub becomes a bit "full on" during that main chunk you have as it is constant until that mini-break. The drums and percussion are all very nice. In noticed you posted on your own track about changing the synth on your drop - I like it personally.

@LukeRaith: Cool sampling. Imo the kick is a little boomy, maybe lower it a little in the mix and tighten up the release. I like the 303 style synth that starts to tease into the track. Getting some retro vibes from this man, I haven't heard much of this kind of stuff lately - it's nice. I like the classic hats/claps you have going on but I think the clap is a little dull - try adding an exciter to brighten it a little or change up the sample. I like when everything kicks in at 2.30ish, got me grooving man. One more thing, the clap delay build thing you have before the final drop becomes a little muddy imo - try maybe cleaning that up a little too.

A remix I'm working on for the Zomboy Beatport comeption, looking for some input on the mix (its pretty shit atm) and structure :

@3D_Shades: everyone starts somewhere man, just keep working at it. Your tracks would definitely benefit from more elements and layers. Also there are a few wobbles I didn't much care for, though the wobbles when you open up the filter a bit more sound pretty cool.
@antman: I really like the atmosphere in your track, everything sounds great so far, I'm quite interested in how its going to sound when complete.
@KoastEDM: The Synth at the begging is a little harsh to be the first sound that plays, and to play as frequently as it does. You have an interesting idea here but need more elements and variety. Also I don't hear much sub at all.

I tried making something around 100 bpm this time, I really liked the slower tempo because I can actually jam on my maschine at that tempo, which I think really helps make the track feel less programed.
