Wubs - Requake, megalodon, p0gman

Post by antman » Tue Apr 02, 2013 4:02 am

:u:

Any tips on the sound design behind these guys?

You guys know what im talking about, those really bouncy wub wub wub sounds.

So far ive been avoiding LFO's and sticking with one shot envelopes. Im also using really quick subtle delays but I cant seem to get that proper deeeeeep wub.

Using massive, any tips?

Please, off yourself for calling it a "wub".

I'm pretty sure there's a subfiltronik project file out there with that sound. Dunno where, but that's the sound I think you're looking for.

Well I mean what other way is there to describe the sound?

So you mean to tell me the sound at 1:08 doesnt sound like "WUUUB"

Sorry if wub seems to have brostep attached to it nowadays but this certainly isnt brosteppish, and im simply using a word to describe the sound the best way someone would understand it. So please "off yourself" for telling me to "off myself" for saying wub.

The common name for a "wub" bass for those literate enough to understand it, is called a wobble bass, or at least that's one common name for it, not "wub". :a:

But these are not wobbles. Wobbles are sounds that use an LFO to get that wobble sound.

These sounds are one shot basses that are repeated through midi notes and do not use an LFO.

That is either an LFO, or just a simple automation. MalleusDUB makes basses like that on a daily basis. :dunce:

its really easy its actually all done in massive , put all the amp knobs pointing to 12 o clock and add lfo with a ramp and leave one amp slightly effected by the lfo to give some noise and it wont sound too qweer , expirement with carbon wave tables and sine shaper, and +/ - who knows you might make a better sounding bass just having fun with it.

ditch massive and get razor for reaktor. the sheer nature of the synth just sounds sooooo much thicker than massive

lowpass on filter 1 + comb peak on filter 2
set LFO2 to Phase
assign LFO1 to the lowpass cutoff (duh)
assign LFO2 to the comb filter's phase knob
crank the shit out of the resonance. not all the way, but a lot
the upwards ramping LFOs get you that bubble noise texture
you can use the cutoff on the comb filter to get more variations
just play around with everything else

the key is the low cutoff, high resonance, and the upwards ramping LFO shape. the wavetables don't really matter here. avoid using the more harmonic wavetables.

the main wobble was made all in razor.

stop using lfos and envelopes and start using performer
performer can be a lfo and a tempo synced envelope
just load a duckorgan and daft filter
or get reason (where the style of music originated from?

How about focusing on defining how the sound is made, not what to call it. If you can't get past that, you're not getting anywhere.

I have been trying to get this really smooth sound in massive like in this song here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRggcp8Odec

Any tips? I can figure out the modulation.. I just can't figure out how to get such a clean sound from massive. Thanks :)

To answer this post on the sound design part (if it hasn't already been answered [too lazy to actually read all of it]), I actually mistakenly made a pretty similar sound. To me it sounds similar, but it could be exact, even though mine just doesn't have an LP filter. Anyways, I made it in Reason, and here is the patch.

By the way, the bitcrusher is merely a subtle effect in my patch, but it just makes it sound so much better imo.

Also, the process is image 1, image 2, then image 3. Just to be safe. :cornlol:
