I recently got into producing music and would like to know how other artists like 16Bit, Benga, Coki etc make their sub bass wobble.I want to have a clear powerful wobble that I find hard to achieve. What do you all usually do when making your sub bass wobble do you use LFO's ? Tremolo ? I've used LFO's in my first two tracks so far, but it's slightly harder to tell when the bass is wobbling when it hits a certain frequency. And yes, i do have a perfectly fine subwoofer so i can hear both low and high frequencies perfectly. Im not sure whether its best to put a low pass lfo on a sub bass or tremolo, maybe im missing something? Please share how you usually deal with making your sub bass wobble and tell me what im missing, cause im startin to get off
Mostly volume automation, but sometimes pitch too. You don't want a lot of processing on sub bass, personally I like to just duplicate the mid bass and turn everything off and switch the oscillators to a sine. Then just put the same lfo mods to volume instead of filter or whatever. That way it follows the mid bass nicely.
I don't think you're meant to be able to hear the sub in your mix, you have to gauge it with an EQ, and you want to LFO the cutoff in your synth. I like to make my sub match whatever the bass is doing
In my experience LFO on volume sounds weak (for wobbles) and to be honest I've never heard anyone talk about LFO on volume. Only heard (again, for wobbles) of LFO on filter cutoff (ie pitch). But I'm not saying it doesn't work I'm just saying I didn't know it was a popular practice

Effecting the volume is the best way wobble a SUB bass, you can't really get a good hard stutter like the James Blake one with cut-off.
I roll off my low pass pretty low though, if you have a sub with a bit of mid in it, cutoff will give you some movement.

An 808 bass is a perfect example of a pitch modulated sub!
