MUST DIE! Vowel bass help

Post by AntidoteWasTaken » Tue Apr 09, 2013 10:49 pm

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovXIZFTcA28

so after the drop its pretty obvious which bass I'm talking about since there is just one.

My first and probably right guess is that its FM synthesis(which I've been working on improving), but now that I listen to it again it sounds more like a crazy reese bass.
If anyone has any ideas on what he might of done, please let me know :P

someone out there knows ;)

I recommend you watch SeamlessR on YouTube if you want help on FM Synthesis, he uses FL Studio but if you don't use FLS...then this is all I can do, other people might help though. If you do have FLS and a little cash, you can buy his FLPs of his music on Black Octopus Sound. His remix of Skrillex's "Make it Bun Dem" is for free, and that contains some FM Synthesis tactics

i feel like must die often just uses massive and by the sounds of it im sure you could get something close with massive. mess about with all the digital waves (chrome, digigrain, etc.) and use lots of ring mod/fm in the moducation osc. i have gotten some weird shit by just attaching lfo/envs to those perameters. also the double notch filter is key. run it through multipul shapers in the bottom fx.

then throw WOW on that and some distortion and your good to go.

Ill goof for a bit and see what happens
I've made some pretty odd yet interesting basses with massive by messing around, only thing is this sounds a bit too complex to just happen upon :P

the complexity comes a lot from massive, but a lot from the post massive effects. I find it useful to make as good/wet/squelchy sound as you can in massive with minimal modulation (maybe just a basic lfo wobble or long envelope with as slow attack) but take advantage of the effects within the synth in a light way. if you push it too hard from the synth it will get muddy. now i usually start to start assigning macros to various thing. assign 1 to cutoff/ring mod/fm amount, and even some of the osc effects like intensity and wavetable. i have recently been working the shit out of the massive EQ and when it is modulated right, you can get some crazy vowel sounds. try and throw a cut in the eq around

i just got kinda close to that octopus bass sound just now. i think they key is really making a couple macros in massive that have tons of slight automations to them and when you move a knob or two the sound just morphs. do some sharp notches to get the mud out 500hz-1k. i put the NI Driver on it and it really got that low bassy drive sound. and use a couple filter. the wow can help you get the mouth but have one after, like a bandpass, to get the more opening and closing sound. there is a bunch of reverb on a send somewhere that makes it massive too.

its a great sound tho. let me know if you get something close. i think he is chopping it up lots once its in audio which gives you that neuro sound.

wow lots of writting :o

you must be very thick if your planning on buying an flp to become a better producer , and to the guy that posted the topic vowel bass can easily be achieved with wow filter, or modern talking that every one hates on but still uses

Misinformation as in bullshit. Using wow is fine, but saying "lol just use MT and WOW" really isn't helpful to the OP. also calling someone thick for suggesting looking at a FL project and deconstructing it... It's a good idea for a beginner tbh.

I'm glad you know what you're talking about, got any examples of your mad midrange synthesis capabilities?

Thanks for disregarding my questions and instead calling me thick and over complicated? Ok come back to me when you actually get an education and start to post decent info on this forum.

Seriously what's wrong with buying an project to deconstruct, if you're a complete beginner. Ok it might be cheating or taking the easy route but if it helps you achieve your final goal then so what?

Still waiting on you posting some mad growls bro.

and so what when you get to your goal how do you feel? its better to feel you really owned your way to your spot , and you learn wayy way more teaching yourself in the way , so instead of watching a video you teach yourself things you did not know about but helps you or you find things you werent looking for but helps you alot. the thing about music is you need to feel it not shortcut your way, beethoven didnt take any shortcuts, he developed a passion for the hard work he put in and even then after he went deaf he kept going on what he loved because his over all experience on learning made his bond stronger with music im no music wizard but i know some stuff other people took a shortcut dont know

Comparing Beethoven, really?

Surely deconstructing a project to learn how the artist made the sounds is equally as rewarding as watching an artist make sounds. In fact I'd say you probably learn more as you have to reverse engineer sounds to know how they were made within the project rather than watching a video an copying settings. Learning yourself is great but opening a new synth or vst can be daunting, most people don't reach for the manual - they seek guidance from tutorials or presets. Obviously creativity plays a role and I'm not denying that, I'm simply rebutting your point that buying a project to analyse is "thick", it like saying buying samples, or to an extent, presets is stupid - yet it's what most of electronic music today is built on.

Hey man its my opinion, many people think otherwise. but imo that is the best way to learn, to experience making such things

But that's exactly my point, by deconstructing something and reverse engineering sounds you are gaining experience!
