James Blake - Overgrown

Post by zeta » Sun Apr 07, 2013 11:01 pm

Just nabbed a copy of it. So far the best album I've heard all year. Such a step-up from his debut, and some of the tunes are absolutely massive.

What do you all think of it?

By far one of my favorite and currently on repeat tunes is, Life Round Here!
Very neat album!

One of the best albums i've heard in the past 12 months, a real step up from his debut

every song on it is really, really good
you're not wrong, you're just an asshole

It's nice, even the bait verse from RZA can be forgiven because the backing is solid. :Q:

Bumped it on spotify, first half of the album is great. Gets moist and boring after that, lost me after whatever song started going ' oh canada'...

It'll take another several listens
which is more than I gave his first because this is more intriguing
with the spaces being less predictable and the melodies less obvious.
His voice sounds like a less throaty Anthony of the Johnsons
with the vital difference that he uses it sparingly enough to not lose interest.
The production is more finely detailed
but I'm unsure as to whether the noodling will hold up over time
without more memorable rythms and beats to hang on.
I need to hear the sub-bass's full impact on a big rig.

just a little peeve:
the CD jacket lists the track details in a repetitive way without giving much info at all,
a waste of 8 or so pages particularly when the fotos are non-descript.

You sure you listening to the right album 'A Case Of You' was on his first album if I'm not mistaken.

I'm not a fan of his singing at all.

Ha maybe, I definitely checked the album on Spotify, but that will automatically play everything he's made on there after that, so might have gone on to some other thing he's done.

Take A Fall For Me, Dim, and Our Love Comes Back are also on repeat atm!
Our Love Comes Back is such a sexual sounding song, I can't get enough of it!

Awesome album, though I think he should take singing lessons and sing less in his head... it sounds kind of whiny at times, I think he could do better. Other than that, flawless album.

This only went up on Spotify yesterday so yes you were definitely listening to 'Enough Thunder'. That song you mention is also a Joni Mitchell cover

Overgrown was definitely up when I listened to it (I synced it and can see the files right now). Need to have a relisten to just that tho!
