Funny trying to define professional for plugins.I mean if you was to look at the film industry Native instruments Kontakt is up there as the most used soft sampler so would this constitute to it being the most professional?
Anyway back on topic,i would say my top plugins are Izotope Ozone, psp vintage warmer2 and anything by fabfilter or native instruments.
I'm about to get a Uad system which will probably become my most used platform.

Well some plugins are cheap and tacky. Wouldn't call them very professional.. You wouldn't see silly freeware in a studio which earns enough than to pay its own bills.

I'd say Nexus 2, Harmor, and Sytrus. Nexus 2 helps me get some crazy pads and pianos (The expansion pack make it 100 times better) and Sytrus can make some pretty good Vowel bass, Harmor can make some epic reeces

For instruments:
FM8, Reaktor Prism, Absynth
Alchemy
Lounge Lizard
Superior Drummer
Zebra2
Some Kontakt libraries

For processing:
DMG Compassion, Equilibrium
Fabfilter Pro-L, Pro-Q, Pro-C, Pro-G, Timeless 2, Saturn, Volcano
Softube Fet, CL1B
D16 Decimort
1176 and LA2A sims by Waves/TRackS
Cytomic The Glue
PSP Vintage Warmer 2, oldTimerME
112 dB Redline Reverb, Preamp

For metering:
iZotope Insight
Waves Dorrough
Nugen Visualizer

All the above plugins are excellent. There's more in my tickle-trunk but that's basically all my go-to shit.

Probably shouldn't have let all those cats out of their bags but whatever, this thread will be buried soon anyway :6:

ps Don't sleep on Compassion! It's the most intuitive and versatile dynamics plugin I've ever used, by a long shot. :Q:

I've been looking at Compassion on and off for a long time. Is it a work horse? Worth 250 or whatever they are asking? I know it's a tad steep.

On the real...I cant praise Slate Digital enough. I mix every project w Virtual Tape Machine and V Console Collection. I dont know if it sounds like real tape and a real analog desk...but I like how it sounds...whatever that is.

It does pretty much everything. I never even knew about the second bottom panel that pops out until I'd been using it for a while. It's really configurable. And the UI shows you exactly what's going on.

It's become my standard utility compressor just out of sheer versatility:
Ratio from 1:1 to -1:1, attack from 0 - 1 second, release from 0 - 5 seconds, auto release, rms time, hold time, attack and release curve controls, upward and downward expansion and compression, transient shaper, clipper, configurable meters, k system metering, etc.

If you need a jack of all trades compressor, I'd definitely give it a try.

It's one of those I know I should buy...and it will always be there...so I get distracted by shinny things. Will have to demo it again.

Another plugin I forgot to add was RND D1/D4. Pretty interesting approach to dynamics that can work well in certain situations.
It's now called the dyna-mizer after the company changed hands or something. http://rndigital.net/dynamizer.html

The audio's separated into 4 bands based upon gain and processed from there. Sort of like a vertical multiband dynamics type of thing.

when you say professional, i think--well developed, excellent support/customer service, advanced features, elegant GUI, etc.

is this more of a whats your favorite plugin question though haha?

anyways some plugins i really enjoy are

audio damage eos
audio damage dubstation
camelphat
fabfilter saturn
IIEQ Pro EQ
and maybe even wow filter, even though it sounds so cliche nowadays in dubstep, it sounds really nice even with the resonance whacked up

I'm quite certain it's exactly that, but wrapped in a noobish layer of "what pro plugins do I use to make pro sounding trax like the pros?"
