I seem to recall reading somewhere that she went into 'that sort' of porn as it was a safer way for her to indulge in those fetishes in a more controlled setting

surely sex working regardless what region is kosher at all times? i don't really get it
It wasn't a loaded question - just that, as far as I can tell, there are many 'kinds' of feminism and some of them seem to reject pornography as wrong (for whatever reason).
Just wanted Magma's opinion on it as he is a (some kind of) feminist and, as I recall, he likes Sasha Grey. Idk in what context he likes her - looks, work, artistic interpretation, or if she's done anything to merit his admiration of her intellectual prowess - so I suppose i'm asking, as a (your kind of) feminist how does a woman being beaten in the face with a penis sit with you?

Like I say, this isn't some veiled attack on Magma, it's just he's in a unique position to inform me.

Sasha Grey wrote:Around this time I started thinking about pornography as a career opportunity. I have a huge appetite for sex and self-exploration. I wanted to express my sexuality as a strong woman, to push my own boundaries and see which part of my psyche would take me to my next euphoric sexual experience. I wanted to do all of this in a sex positive way. Despite the controversy that surrounds this industry, I felt I could ultimately bring an enigmatic quality to it. I decided that if my instinct continued to push me toward the reality of this, and the dissatisfaction with my education continued, I would seize the opportunity on my own. I began my research that month, making my decision absolute in October 2005. On April 17th, 2006 I moved to LA, got tested at AIM and found an agent. I performed my first sex scene on May 1st, 2006 in The Fashionistas 2: Safado. Although I have come a long way since then, many people in society believe that I am a victim. I was not sexually abused. I am not on drugs. The acts I perform are always consensual. I am a woman who strongly believes in what she does - it is time that our society comes to grips with the fact that "normal" people (women especially) enjoy perverse sex.

What is the point in followers? Do you get followers when you reach your friend limit or something? Or if you don't accept someones friend request can they just follow you instead?
They become followers if you don't accept the friend request. I do have actual followers but my posts usually end up to friends only instead of public so I don't see the point of it. I reached my friend request limit so for some reason there are people who can't even send me a request and others can. No idea why.

oh no i wasn't suggesting that it was.

PERSONALLY! for me, feminism comes hand in hand with liberalism which is why i was a bit like 'eh'...

i do know a few girls that are really put off by pornography but ultimately porn for me is about fantasy and fetishes. different strokes for different folks. wouldn't put it down to a sexism thing though

there is some oddballs out there tho who contradict then selves

I wonder how many strong, independent women have some Sasha Grey dvds in their collection...

I wonder if there was a Sasha Grey inspired line in Destiny's Child's hit "Independent Women" that didn't quite made the cut...
If there was, how did it go?

I wonder what the cognitive function is for being sexually aroused by an act that is otherwise degrading...

What are you writing?
Been trying to write a book on "evolved" Man's experience within the "modern" world for the last year or so. It's actually starting to gain a little bit of traction.

Mainly it started because I realised how much time and energy I spent writing lengthy posts about evolution, psychology, philosophy and stuff in places like this... might as well put chapter headings on them and call it a book!!
Of course! I remember you mentioning this.

Also, you're a feminist, are you not?
How does porn sit with you, Sasha Grey's in particular? I seem to remember your... a... fan of hers. ??

Never really had to construct a sentence like that before... makes me feel like i'm calling you a top wanker
Damn, how did I miss this... RIGHT.

I wouldn't call myself a feminist, but only because I'm a bit sceptical of the term being applied to men. I'm definitely pro-equality and pro-woman... I like my women strong and accomplished, whatever field they choose to be in.

I really only chose Sasha Grey for that joke because she's a well-known go to name for a pornstar these days (I wouldn't say I was a particular fan though; she's pretty), but I'm actually pretty fine with most stuff that goes on in porn as long as it's consenting on both sides. I've had experiences within loving relationships that didn't get too far from some of her work - sex is an extremely intimate, conversation between two people... given how long and how much sensory input it takes to grow a human personality and sexuality, it really does take all sorts to make each of us happy - the best sexual relationships are the ones where the couple are open about what they want, what they're comfortable with and what they're not - I'm sure it's possible to strengthen a [the right] loving relationship by letting a neighbour come in and fuck the girl in front of the guy or for the girl to get her rubber gloves on and lose her wedding ring in the guy's colon, but of course it wouldn't be at all suitable for most of us - I'm sure it's possible to ruin a perfectly decent and loving relationship by having too-safe/boring sex too.

I think I've mentioned this before, but my first ever girlfriend became a porn star after leaving school. We were best mates all the way through school and are still pretty close, so I've heard her side of things a fair bit - she never quite got into anything as, err, 'violent' as Sasha Grey, but she did some things that the more "vanilla" amongst us would find deeply shocking... the point was that she loved almost every minute of it... she had the odd day when she didn't enjoy it as much as others (as we all do at work), but she never felt abused or taken advantage of. She earned a LOT of cash, had a lot of sex that she really enjoyed (she was always a nympho as a teenager - and no, never abused) and she's still friends with the main producer that she worked with - she's been 'retired' for around 5 years (now has two kids) and they still see each other socially, so he can't have been that much of a bastard to her. She managed to hold down the same boyfriend throughout too - married him the other year and has both her kids with him. As with most topics, blanket morality just doesn't work - if I was in his boots, I would've gone insane; but it's all about keeping things appropriate for the personal situation.

But I do appreciate that a lot of girls who end up in Internet/under-the-counter porn videos or on the street corners are coerced or even forced to be there. The only way I can think of to reduce that is for us all to be honest and grown up about our desires - as long as the video camera exists, so will porn; as long as the human body exists, so will prostitution - we shouldn't be embarrassed about porn being made, we shouldn't be embarrassed that we enjoy watching it, we shouldn't be so ashamed of our natural desires that we don't tell our lover when we masturbate. Those that are able shouldn't be ashamed of being able to separate love and sex. Sex isn't a bad thing, it's an absolutely natural part of the human psyche and its attraction comes in as many forms as there are people on the planet - the constant pressure from society to deny our sexuality causes us untold problems ranging from alienated and confused members of society all the way to forced prostitution, rape and self-flagellation.

Love each other.

@gwa - I have to admit that porn is a bit of a mystery to me, as is vast swaths of feminist theory..
I wasn't saying porn is sexist (I don't think), I just find it curious/ironic/funny that getting hit with a cock and spat upon can be seen to be quite the feminist achievement (at least in Sasha's case).

LOL humans.
