Summertime Production?
It can't just be me that pertty much stops producing music in the summer is it?!
Sitting at a computer inside on sunny days and evenings just doesn't appeal to me, ends up that I'd much prefer to be listening/DJing than producing.
Perhaps it's something I should try and work around though because I love summery music (dub, disco, house) just as much as dark wintery music, and it seems like loads of producers focus on that 'introspective rainy winter night 2am' sort of feel- probably because that's exactly when they're sitting inside making tunes.
Time to take the Laptop to the park perhaps.

Considering I've been on somewhat of a mental block for the last 5 months, I try to get out as much as possible to get inspiration for a tune. Taking your laptop to the park actually sounds like a good idea, just sketching out ideas, sequencing those ideas... Man, I want a laptop now. I actually need one, really.
Anyways, what I would do, is either take your laptop to the park for a couple of hours every few days, and if that doesn't work, just leave your computer all together for a few days, relieve yourself of a musically bored state, and get back into the frying pan and make a masterpiece. I may have not made much sense since I'm typing this up rather quickly in school, but if I did, well, than welcome.

Yeah, shame my laptop is about 5 years old with a battery that lasts 20minutes but my home setup is a decent desktop. Might be the excuse I need to get a new laptop!
Re: Summertime Production?
I pretty much listen to music wherever I go, whenever I can, so I try to take in elements, whether it be the song I'm listening to, the air I'm breathing, or the trees I'm dodging, so anytime I'm not making music, I'm listening to it. That's sort of my inspiration. If I were you, I'd save up for a Macbook, or Windows, depeding on your DAW. Idk how, but the MacBook Pros seem to handle DAWs with no problem. Amazes me.

I just scored a free amp and am looking into passive PA speakers...gonna be setting up a PA with my latop, a mixer and Maschine in my garage...gonna get the DAT out there to record some stuff.
The way things work out for me I have more time to produce in the summer typically as I'm just working retail and not teaching. There is no reason to quit, just do something different. Maybe take the time to learn to play the guitar (you could do that outside) or set something up to jam/record with friends. Go do field recordings or unusual percussive recordings. Cruise the second hand stores and record stores for vinyl and spend the rainy days (if you have those in summer) sampling. I've been sampling my ass off so I have plenty of material to work with on Maschine.
I'm having a going away party for a friend in some cabins in a near-by state park, part of that weekend will be music making. All kinds of things you can do. Take it less seriously and just lay down some quick and dirty ideas then get back to the sun.

It's going to be exactly the opposite for me, I'll finally have some time with school being over and all...

I think summer is the beast, and easiest times to produce! Summer makes me inspired and upbeat. Doesn't mean I will be sitting indoors in front of a desk all day. Can take the set-up outside or go completely in the box.

It's too hot outside I'd rather smash my midi keyboard all day in my dark, cold room.

I find more that the weather shapes the music I make.
Winter - dark heavy bass
Summer - chilled out pads strings jungle
Rain - winjing

YAY for mobile music production! Nothing like exploring granular synthesis and eating magic brownies in the park by the pond.
Nanostudio for iOS and a few other choice apps are perfect for this stuff... making songs outside. Made a tune a couple days ago that started off as a shits-n-giggles beatboxing loop I recorded at the playground with my daughter then processed through the free (and very cool) Yellofier app... next thing I knew the song wrote itself.
Even just wandering around with a field recorder and collecting sounds is fun though.

Middle of the 90 degrees F, 80% humidity afternoon with wheat beer in the cooler and a giant fucking spliff.

Re: Summertime Production?
I would kind of like to go outside to make music, but I live in Mississippi. So there's a fuck ton of bugs, it's hot, and my laptop has shit battery.
