Favorite Sample packs Thread

Post by outdropt » Thu May 09, 2013 4:57 pm

So guys,

What are your favorite sample packs?

Here's a format you should try to stick to:

Name of product
Free/paid (If it's paid for, what price)
Loop's/one shot's
Types of sounds (drum kits, synth hits, atmospherics, real world recording, ect)
Most used samples

If your awesome try to include the location to purchase/download the pack.

This is excluding vengeance sample packs, since majority of producers have heard, seen, and used them.

For me currently its

VIP Series: DJ Assault
Comes with computer music so i wouldn't say its free ($4.99)
- 800 booty-bangin' beats, vocals, basslines, FX and more!
I really like the drums and one shots. Some of the vocals are sweet too!

Roland TR 808, 727, and 909 Samples

Just a free one I had got online. All one-shots.

I use the 808 kick, snare, and the 909 kick, snare and hi-hats a lot. Mostly I use them as a basis for a sound then use FL's built in sampler to pitch around, stretch, and alter them to fit what I want. You can actually create some quite versatile sounds that way.

Out of curiosity does anyone have similar sample packs of the Roland-TR drums for free laying around somewhere?

google "chrispy dinner" and via freesounds.org, you can get some massive kicks and snares that sound natural but sharp as hell. they punch through nice

For me it's all about Superior Drummer. I've got most of the expansion kits and just swap drums out and process the raw sound. If you can really call it raw, they're basically super pristine drums in high level studios.

I also use Tapspace's Virtual Drumline for Kontakt. Lots of good percussion and marching drums in there. Although a lot of the snares need to be compressed and multi-tracked for thickness.

I've been looking for a sampler that actually records audio from the DAW for ages (apart from Directwave which I didn't like when I tried out) Recently found out FXpansion's Geist does it and is a pretty pimp sampler as well. So I'm gonna get into the traditional sampling style once I get my MPK61 and can do some drum pad drumming. It'll mostly be percussion I synthesize to beef up my usual organic samples. I'd like to try my hand at sampling some synthed stuff at multiple velocities and making some cool patches to play with. Geist looks like it'll be more fun to automate as well compared to a "realistic" sampler like Superior Drummer.

You can probably tell I shy away from using one shots that are already processed by someone else. It takes more time but custom fitting your percussion always sounds better and imparts your own sonic style.
