Moulded earplugs

I'm looking at getting Earsonic custom earplugs. For going out and DJ'ing. After my last night, my ears were just hissing for too long and I really fucking need those things if I wanna keep producing. Or going out for that matter.

I have the option of getting 8, 13 or 17 dB earplugs. Which one's should I go for? I suppose the 8 ones are plenty dampening. I'm going to use them for DJ'ing as well, so dampening too many frequencies isn't optimal.

Or is 190 overpriced for earplugs? Price is in euros. I don't think it's too much money for ear protection, but if I can get cheaper, I'll try.

When I'm playing out, those cans need to be loud too and I'd take them off to hear the tune I'm mixing into. And those would do me no good when I'm out in the crowd at a night out.

i know this is an old thread but if you havent gotten those moulded earbuds yet, I would consider buying some pivot cup cans. I have some Audio-technica ATH-M50s and they have the pivot cups which are great because you can just flip one side up and be able to hear both songs you are trying to mix. They also isolate well when closed.

Do you have to go get a mould taken when you buy moulded earplugs or is it a kinda diy kit?

you get them moulded, my housemate is a drummer and has quite a pricey pair but i'll ask him where and how he went about getting them

I used to have some. Used ones that were 15db and it was too much attenuation I felt too disconnected. I'd say go with the lowest one mate.

I currently have ER 15db and i use for going out and gigs, and they do the job well in protecting my ears without any reduction in quality, in my opinion.

With mine I had to go to a hearing centre and get the moulds made then they sent 'em off to the place that makes 'em.

@Nitz - I found 'em most useful for when I was just going out to clubs to drink/dance whatnot. Although they are a million times better than foam plugs at balancing the frequency spectrum I still found they didn't do a good enough job to use em for more critical things (engineering / DJ'ing etc) if they do for you though then that's great, your ears are gonna thank you for it!

housemate has the 25's, says they make it quiet, you can still hear the music but it doesn't have the same effect, although he bought his for drumming not listening to music. They cost £120 and the guy comes to your house and molds them there.

I had -17dB and the reduction was just too much. I'd go 8 or 13. But usually the "filter" that reduces the incoming sound is replaceable without having to mould and pay the full price again (just in case the reduction you chose doesn't fit).
But be careful, at a gig I played I removed them for few minutes or so because I was going for a smoke after my set and left them on the table. When I came back they were not there anymore. Not sure if stollen (which would be silly) or lost but I couldn't find them, and for this price it's just annoying.

I only use it for the purposes mention and they do a pretty good job. Trust me, there has only been a few occasion where i've not taken them, i believe they were made by god ! In fact it was you i asked help for in getting my ER'15s, i remember. Back in the days when you used the name Lowpass.
