extensive edm tutorials in logic?

Post by Eat Bass » Mon May 13, 2013 5:10 am

does anyone know of a youtube channel or anywhere in particular that has advanced logic tutorials? for example, i know of a bunch of people who do pretty extensive tutorials in ableton such as bassgorilla, and vespers who have posted their stuff on here before, but are more known on youtube and such. theres a few others like ill.gates has some really good tutorials and just extensibe edm production videos in ableton that go deep into a lot of useful functions of the daw and into processes such as resampling techniques, freq splitting, sound design in general as well as composition and some arrangement/mixing.

im looking for something similar in logic. the only videos i tend to see in logic some crappy basic and gimmicky dubstep tutorials.

thanks billy.

does anyone have any resampling techniques in logic? im looking to speed up my workflow. after watching a bunch of ableton videos, i must say im kind of jealous about how easy live makes resampling. like all audio clips are automatically put in a sampler for tuning and adjustments, and you can pick which part of the sample you want to play on the fly. also if you have a bass drone sampled you can go through and select and record any spot from that drone without actually slicing the clip. there must be some techniques in logic that make this stuff easier. the only thing i know is the ctrl E to automatically convert a sample into esx24, which is handy.

I wouldn't suggest making "EDM" in Logic pro. It's kinda outdated by now and simply don't facilitate workflow the way DAW's like Ableton do.

O RLY?

I get Massive Synth tutorial bulletins and I happened to just get one on resampling in Logic Pro. Haven't watched it yet. Soon.

sure, theres certain aspects that make live better than logic for edm, such as the way sampling works, but besides that i kind of like logic better. i dont use the session view in live and the way i see it. live is like that sexy girlfriend thats fun at first but after a while becomes a huge pain in the arse and fucks you over in the long run with the mix down. where logic is slightly chubby with glasses, but sophisticated and pulls her wait around the house. shes not as fun and the sex is alright, but 10 years down the road she fucking pulls through and is there for you when you need her through the toughest times such as the mix down and finishing the song.

anyways, the way i see it is i think ill always end up in logic for the reasons i just spoke of. im just trying to optimize the workflow the best i can in the early stages. if i cant do it, maybe ill get live and end up using both. but for now i want to try and stick with logic since i don't even know the program in and out.

Best thing I have ever read, Eat Bass you are the man :h:

I'm the same though, I keep looking at Ableton thinking yeah fuck Logic, but when I play with the Ableton demo everything just feels weird

It's lovely to work with audio in ableton. A joy.

Ironically though, I've been meaning to demo FL 11. I haven't used it since FL 4. I've heard amazing things, and a much better reputation for pleasing their loyal customers, unlike Ableton

My only real bitch is limited audio editing directly on the playlist. But Edison is a beast. Also life time free updates ;p

@ billy - yeah haha that's just the way I see it. I also sometimes want to jump to ableton just for like the sampling and grouping capabilities and the racks. But then I like logic better for everything else pretty much.

It's just really clostriphobic once you get a lot of tracks and automation lanes and what not. Things get unorganized quickly. Then with logic everything just feels logical and organized and I think the mixing tools are a bit better and everything ends up sounding a bit tighter and it's very nice to work with.

This isn't too extensive, but I found it the other day and there are some good tips that will def help your work flow if you dont already know any of this stuff. Actually covers some of the more useful features for someone who already has a bit of experience with logic.
