Hey Guys,
Just wondering if anybody has any cool, unique, NEW, ideas for how to make big notey kick drums for trap. I like to be able to tune the note around to make for a more compelling sub line. When it tunes well within a several note range, its just kinda nice right? I use ableton so I've recently discovered you can use corpus as an effect to tune a regular kick (you know like a thumpy non notey kick) into a long giant sine-wavy kick that sounds like you're hitting a huge tube (hence selecting the "tube" material in corpus). I just thought it was cool to hear a regular kick morphed into a trappy kick like that. So I guess my question is, anybody got any similar tips that do that sort of thing with effects or whatever else?

Re: Trap Bass Ideas
Layer a sine under a clicky kick sample. Basically make your kick body with a synth instead of sampling.

Re: Trap Bass Ideas
Look up 808 classic under ableton drum racks.
Crank the decay to the desired time, and you can set the frequency of the kick to whatever note you want, just google a frequency to musical not chart or whatever.
Then process it... Saturation, what have you... Nice thing is the tuning is a macro knob so it's easily automated.

Re: Trap Bass Ideas
it's pretty much always an 808
I would experiment with either setting loop points and using sustain, or just using a great big long one on a piano roll and setting it to 1 voice/monophonic/choke group. So you can knock about on the keyboard/pads and play a bassline but the kick won't overlap with itself causing a muddy low end mess
